Anywhoo, he tells me how Microsoft Sucks and how Star Office is so much more "Elegant and Intuitive" than the MS Office Suite. (do they like use those two words in conjuction with Star Office on Sun's site? I mean, it's not two words this guy could have come up with on his own)
anyway, just like most people anti MS, this guy is anti Intel. Like I didnt' see that one coming. He says, "Oh AMD has Always been faster!" obviously not recollecting the days of K6-2 versus CeleA and P2/3 and such.
His reason for thinking MS sucks:
"because with linux you can customize your blah blah."
Oh well, I thought it entertaining especially since he doesn't know how to use Linux too well, so I thought I'd share wi ya :cheesy:
I am tired

The stupid thing with Linux is that you dick around with it so much just to get it to do the simplest things, and there's that brief moment of satisfaction and triumph, and then you wonder: what have I accomplished, really? People act like learning about Linux means you are learning more about computers... that's bullshit! You aren't learning about how computers work or how operating systems work... all you are learning about is how Linux works. Which is only helpful to you if you want to run Linux. And the reason most people run Linux is... to say that they run Linux. It's an exercise in pointlessness.
If you want to learn more about operating systems, read Tanenbaum's book on the subject. And then read the flamewar he had with Linus Torvalds...
EDIT: Oh, and StarOffice sucks the fermenting sweat off of dead donkey balls. Really. It's so bad, it's not even funny. But what do you expect from software that comes out of Germany?

When I read the title of this thread, the first thing that came to mind was, "OS X is the world's most advanced OS." ;)

i'm not anti-msot, i just don't think windows is significantly better then mac os that the morons on the BF think it to be. Keep in mind i think win2k/xp and OS X have their pro's and cons and neither has significant advantage over the other.
I liked AMD but always as the underdog that kept its head up and eventually produced the Athlon chip that gave intel a run for its money. Otherwise i've liked intel too. I like motorola and IBM as well. However I don't like them with any emotional attachment or passion. I just think like any company they will try to compete and come up with technologies to appease their markets. So i never understood why people don't like intel or amd, or mot/ibm because they believe these companies have 'evil' reasons or want to fuck with the partisians of the BF. Then again we have the issue of bad management that is fucking with what motorola could achieve. Plus, the reality is sometimes a company can invest in a technology/idea that ends up going no where. Its the risk a company takes, i can accept that too.
meh, i seem to have forgotten why i don't post anymore. I think the whole platform contention is retarded from the get go, and the people who care are the ones who make a big deal out of it and ironically end in their own personal RDF.

It runs on commodity hardware. Sorry, I can pickup a box, brand new, for $600 that runs circles around most Mac's and runs Windows XP Pro.
Lets not even get into Apple's total dependency on Motorola as IBM does not really like Altivec, and MacOSX has a LOT of dependencies (well if you like speed anyways) on Altivec.

It's like the fucking moron MWNH who just wants to run Linux/GNU on a XBox just to stick it to Microsoft....
Yeah, you already paid MS for the product... I don't think they really care what you do with it afterward. (Though in the case of a console, it would be nice if you bought some games, too.)
Nice life huh?
Well, if only the rest of us mere mortals had as much disposable income to burn needlessly as he claims to do...

as IBM does not really like Altivec
IBM's Gecko chip found in gamecube is a derivative of G3 and uses something like Altivec which IBM used/got from Motorola. IBM may have disagreed at one time, but they are on the SIMD bandwagon.

Why? What have you said to him recently?
I keep telling him that MS and Intel Ownz him, and he takes it seriously.
Then I tell him that the P4 is the fastest or second fastest processor in SPECint and he keeps saying "i doubt it" like he hasn't been to spec.org anytime in the last 18 months.
Just remember, AMD had *always* been faster than Intel. :D

Funny, my primary XP box has a higher uptime than my G3 running OSX...We are not talking a few days delta either...
Probably 'cuz you treat it like an unwanted child. Your computer is sitting on the floor for christsake...you have to lie down on the floor to use it.
Judging by the way you set up your B&W G3, I can bet it's turned off most of the time, and as result, will not have the same uptime as the computer you use most often.
If I were a masochist and got myself an XP box, you can bet your silly ass it would have a shitty uptime compared to my OS X computer. I too would probably set it up somewhere as stupid as the floor where it would constantly get kicked.
