Yeah, that's a pretty wide-open topic there.  It's like asking if there are any "good books on computers" available (in the completely generic sense).

I would recommend, though, that you get a book on TCP/IP, since that's going to be involved in just about any networking situation that you'll encounter.  As for books, the "TCP/IP for Dummies" is probably a good start, since IMO it does a fairly good job of explaining things in layman's terms.
