Aren't two of the Sailor Scouts lesbians?
You know, that's just what American animation is missing; it doesn't need more violence; it needs more dykes. Hot ones.

Obviously no one can think of a suitable rebuttal to my comment so I guess you all agree. Damn right.

Every guy knows that all girls are closet dykes. We don't have to change anything, just get them drunk.
Wow, I didn't think I could get that out. That was funny.

You mean Haruka (Amara) and Michiru (Michelle) ?
Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus?
Well, there's not much said and done in season S when they appear, but the subtext is made pretty clear in Stars. In the manga it was always pretty clear-cut.
And so far, while they did try to write around it for the US/CA dub, a lot of the subtext is still there. If you weren't looking for it, you would still get the hint.
Nothing to rule out they aren't actually bi, though.
Honestly, they're not naked. Go draw your own crappy doujinshi if you want that.
And to someone like DuffMan, I do suppose it would be "kiddie porn". I mean it's free and on TV, he probably gets off on it, and DuffMan is undoubtedly a minor, so to him it would be technically "kiddie porn" (porn for a pathetic kiddie wanker).
Tue Mar 27 10:58:36 2001
No I am not a minor first of all. No I do not get off to Sailor Moon. The reason I called it kiddie porn is because it sexualizes kids at a young age. Just look at the skirt on the chick at the top of the page. Personally I have nothing against short skirts, but if I had a kid I wouldnt want them forming their conception of female behaivor from a show where all the girls where short skirts and act unrealistically submissive. That's my problem with the show, it's targeted at kids.
For an adult such as yourself who has nothing better to do all day than watch cartoons, I think the show is fine. Obviously your mind has been warped beyond repair, probably due to poor parenting, and the corrupt public school system. For anyone who holds a childs cartoon as a worthy cause to defend by making childish insults, obviously suffers from a lack of perspective.

It was an observation based on something I read.

True enough.

You got the "unrealistically submissive" part wrong there.
And with what little sexuality the show has, I'm not sure why you have such a problem with it being targeted at kids.
I take what I said back, you obviously can't have watched much of it.
Just because something is targeted at kids, doesn't mean it has nothing that older persons would appreciate as well. I think that in it's NorthAmericanized form, it does a pretty good job of straddling the kiddie and teen appeal.
I can look over it's faults for what it brings. It truly was the first show to bring the a female-oriented superhero show to the NorthAmerican market. It got everyone to realize that "hey, girls will watch cartoons too -- it's not just a crap boys club". It may be perhaps the only animated show airing in NorthAmerica where more time is spent on discussions of dating, relationships, "boys", and other previously vetreboten subjects than the same old "defeat the evil villain" action.
It's something different. And it's worth as much for what it represents than what it is.
If all you can do is complain about the short skirts, and let that turn you away, then I'm sorry for you.

Right.
Not like I have time to watch the damn show every day, but I can pop a tape in now and then, and it's on weekly as well.
I don't care that much about Sailor Moon per se, but I was generally annoyed by your general demeanor. Maybe those were potshots at you? Yes, they were. But no more so that the cheap shots like
Sailor Moon=Kiddie Porn
All that anime for kids is
DuffMan.
As for the show itself, either you like it or you don't care much. I can say that most of it never impressed me that much. But parts of R and Stars were really impressive. So much so that they redeemed my overall opinion of the series enough.
And the manga is a good quick read with some real feeling behind the appropriation of mythologies and beautiful, sensuous art.
Tue Mar 27 18:03:17 2001
The stuff I'm against is the cartoon network type anime. I admit that I've never watched a whole show of sailor moon, and the submissive behaivor thing might be wrong for that show. But from what I've seen of cartoon network type anime, women in the shows seem to be objectified. I have a 12-year-old brother who watches a lot of that stuff. If he bases his perception of women on these stupid shows, its going to fuck up his head.
Maybe its a clash between eastern philosophy and American feminism, but I think shows like those arent healthy for kids to watch.

I don't know if it's accurate to single out cartoons are particularily anime, as TV in general seems to have that effect IMO.

Sailor Moon?
Tenchi OAV/Universe/Tokyo?
Outlaw Star?
I'll grant that each of these has a little objectification in it, even after the editing.
However, not so much that I consider it to outweigh the better qualities of the shows. And certainly not much more than their non-Japanese anime, such as Superman or Batman. If your brother is getting fucked up from it, it's more to do with him than the shows. He should be more than a passive conduit for media impressions anyway. And if he isn't more than that, you better hope he isn't watching MTV.
Ronin Warriors?
DragonBall Z?
Gundam Wing?
Really, what objectification could you find there? If anything, those shows come close to objectifying the male characters and leaving the female characters pretty well alone.
So, what was this about "Cartoon Network Anime" you were complaining about?
Wed Mar 28 04:34:51 2001
To me there just seems like something inherently evil about anime for kids.

You know, I didn't think you were trolling all anime in your statement earlier. It was pretty badly worded. You were trolling Sailor Moon.
Note the "kiddie porn" comment was somewhat in jest -- to qualify as "kiddie porn" to you, I reasoned that it would therefore have to be porn in your eyes (you get off on it) and you would have to be a kiddie as well. Don't read too much into it.
But now, after a pretty level-headed post, I don't get this. I really don't.
Pocket Monsters (Pokemon) not for kids? Digimon not for kids?
to take two current examples, what could you have against them, other than not being very good shows?
Hello Kitty not for Kids?
Mysterious Cities of Gold not for Kids?
World Masterpiece Theater not for Kids?
Hell, Totoro, Kiki, et. all not for Kids?
What the hell would this world be without them? (well, forget Hello Kitty)
As for what's on Cartoon Network, it's pretty clear what they run is intended for older kids (They say 7 and up, but 11, 12+ really -- just look at their target demographic numbers rising) and teens. But even then, I don't consider anything there to be terribly damaging or age innappropriate for the younger crowd.

My zigs told me that you'd come around.
I'm pleased you see things my way now :)

1. Sailor Venus, because she looks the best endowed, and long blonde hair is fucking hot.
b. And any of the others, because if I was Venus, I'd be so busy getting myself off, on myself, that I'd be too busy too look for another hot scout to munch rug with.
It's a dilema you see

Funny how ancient thread revivals can point out how you change.
