Sony sucks

I just wrote them a nastly letter explaining my distaste for their Copy Protection:

"I'm writing to you concerning you're vicious copy protection scheme made (in)famouse by the European release of Celine Dijon's latest CD.  It's unfair, draconian, and I believe criminally illegal.  You are knowingly and willingly causing computers to crash or worse.  What excactly makes you better than the petty script kiddies and virri writers of the world?

My computer is my primary source of entertainment for Gaming, TV, and Music playing.  While I respect the entertainment industries right ot intellectual property, I cannot respect a company who would unilaterally deny my fair use of a product I have paid for with the intent of using it legally.

You should be ashamed.

If I had my way, Sony would be branded a pariah of the music industry by the likes of VH1, MTV, their sponsors, and Major Radio Stations accross the globe until it corrected this vile mistake.

Sony used to be a respectable company.  i own several Sony products but any brand loyalty I had is now gone.   I'm sorry, I can't help it.  I can't help but feel injured by your selfish acts.  Only you can help it by rectifying this monumentous mistake.

Sincerely,

The Mighty AYB"

While it would be nice if they would "mend their ways", it will never happen.

Here's why:
Most of the CDs that screw up computers are going to go into the hands of the idiot public. The ones who buy up every Britany Spears CD and all of the associated singles CDs to accompany it. The N*Sync'ers of the world. These are the type of people most likely to say "My stupid computer is screwed up, I guess I'll have to get my Sony(r) CD Walkman(r) to listen to stuff."

In short, they will not lose, no matter how evil they become. Their target audience is just too damn stupid to defeat them. Shame really, as I suppose that means it will spread to more and more stuff. I suppose that awful Johnny Mnemonic movie was closer to fact than fiction after all...

Did you really send that as-is?

No, it wasn't originally signed as "The Mighty AYB"

I didn't think it fair to trumph them with my authority, so I signed it in my mere mortal name.

Other than that, it is verbatim.

BTW,

I am now an official fan of the Xbox and/or the Gamecube.

I hope Phillips screws them with the CD trademark issue.

Well rip it digitally or rip it analouge by plugging a good cd player into your line in. It will all sound the same in the end.

Well, that did give me pause. ;)  Did you spell Celine's name correctly, or did you leave it as "Dijon"?  That's a type of mustard, ya know.

You know what the effect of copy-protected CDs has had on my life?

I no longer feel guilty about pirating MP3s.  Music wants to be free.  I'm just helping the process.

I have a Sony TV (used) and a PS2, but there's no way I would pay good money for Sony content.

Although it pisses me off when people make bad rips of songs like Shakira's Wherever, Whenever that has bad pops and screetches in it.

The biggest joke about those cd protections is the fact that they are useless when put in a DVD drive.

HA! Eat that fuckers!

You're kidding. Surely.
Are you serious?

How. Fucking. Dumb. (I'm not complaining though, goodness no.)

I got a EMI cd right here with copy protection.

Know what? It ripped fine.

One thing was fucked up though:

I couldnt access the data partition on the cd thats supposedly containing a video.
