Easiest, most robust, cheapest web platform...

Madan

Tue Apr 9 20:59:33 2002

Pick the web platform you prefer the most and rate it:

1. Cheapness? 1-5 Why?
2. Robustness(horsepower)? 1-5 Why?
3. Easiest to learn? 1-5 Why?
4. Most secure? 1-5 Why?

Name one weakness on your web platform of choice.
Name one strength about one other web platform not of choice.

Thanks,

M.

 What are you. A man or a mouse? :)

Pick the web platform you prefer the most and rate it:

CFMX on Win.

1. Cheapness? 1-5 Why?

Poor. 2. Not as bad as Websphere, but pretty bad.

1.5k. for the enterprise edition.

2. Robustness(horsepower)? 1-5 Why?

Now. 3.5. After CFMX comes out in a month(all built off of a new ultra-l33t tough Java backbone) 4.5

3. Easiest to learn? 1-5 Why?

Nothing is easier to learn than CFML. 5

CFML == HTML.

VBS/ASP <> HTML
Java <> HTML
PERL <> HTML
PHP <> HTML
REBOL <> HTML

4. Most secure? 1-5 Why?

Good security. 4. CF hackings are few and far between.

Avg CFML 5: 3.6(3.5)
Avg CFML MX: 3.9(4)

Name one weakness on your web platform of choice.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :(

Name one strength about one other web platform not of choice.

ASP on IIS 5 is cake to use. Just build an ASP file and plant it on your free, robust server and it takes care of the rest. The only hitch is that you have to *BUILD* the ASP file, which imo, is harder to do than PHP or CFML.

Pick the web platform you prefer the most and rate it:

HTML 4 Transitional

1. Cheapness? 1-5 Why?

5 Notepad is all you need, and if you need more, there's always 1stPage 2000

2. Robustness(horsepower)? 1-5 Why?

5 That one is obvious, isnt it?

3. Easiest to learn? 1-5 Why?

5 Even you learned it.

4. Most secure? 1-5 Why?

5 That's a nobrainer as well.

Name one weakness on your web platform of choice.

Everyone can learn it.

Name one strength about one other web platform not of choice.

Not everyone can learn it.

Riso, I was serious. HTML doesn't cut it for dynamic sites. Static == 1995.

I want to see a business website with absolutely no moving graphics, and no colors other than black, white, and various shades of gray.

You *won't* see almost any like that because sites like that simply *don't* sell. The average peson *likes* Flash and color. Which is why, despite the fact that most l33t compu-geeks rage against technologies and design implementations that use a lot of color, there are *more* sites today that deviate from black/white and not less.

ASP.NET. Obv.

1. Cheapness? 1-5 Why?

5. Free download

2. Robustness(horsepower)? 1-5 Why?

5. server-side controls, session state can persist in a database (v. v. easy to cluster), message queuing, kickass exception handling

3. Easiest to learn? 1-5 Why?

5. You can script in BASIC, ferchrissakes

4. Most secure? 1-5 Why?

5. Cryptography is just plugged into each end of a stream, authentication is declarative

Name one weakness on your web platform of choice.

It's new.

Name one strength about one other web platform not of choice.

ASP. It isn't new.

You want dynamic?

Use CSS; funky text stuff you can do.

Madan

Wed Apr 10 20:31:08 2002

*sigh*

Exactly how am I going to use CSS to move information onto a database?

Or am I going to use non-permanent psudo arrays?

Hey I know! Maybe I can wite *EVERYTHING* to text files. Yeah! That'll work.

You sound like some of my coworkers, except they're not being sarcastic. They're old school *nix mainframe types, thus helping to prove *nix causes brain damage.

For my reply, read Paul's post again and pretend I said it.

I can't wait to get a server in the lib running 2K. NT 4 is just so meh. (to use the technical term, heh.)
