Dude, what an amazing game. I really recommend this to anyone wanting some diablo 2 & BG2 style fun. It's great.

Eye candy galore, good game play, good storyline.

My only real complaint is it's somewhat clumsy to do inventory stuff and drink potions quickly.

GET IT.

IT is on AYB's list of games to get.

Since you are an early adopter, The Mighty AYB, in all his power and innaneness, designates you: "Dungeon (Siege) Master"

You should tell us about all the strategies you use to crush your enemies in it.  Yes, Yes, a full review is in order by our new Dungeon Master.

Local stores told me that they will be getting it tomorrow.  I expect that I'll have a copy not too long after they unpack them.

Fortunately for me, I have an appointment with my allergist tomorrow that forces me to leave work in the early afternoon.

Harb: Sweet.. I'm pretty sure you'll like it. :)

Review/Strategy... Well so far I've gone a magic-less style game. My main strategy is archers. Yea, I am in full archer mode until they get close enough for melee, then switch to melee weapons and finish them off. Seems to work fairly well so far. I just got into Glacern, and so far everything has been fairly easy.

More multiplayer strategies after this weekend.

Fuck, first Jedi Knight II, and now Dungeon Seige, I really need to get a job at another company that isn't flushing itself down the dot.com toilet...

Just wondering how you received the game already.  Are you in Europe?  Or do you have a store that puts stuff on the shelf before the intended release date?

Dungeon Seige is one of the best arcade games ever.

The only things I have against it are:

a) That top-down interface hurts my neck after a bit and
b) It's marketed as an RPG, where clearly it's an arcade game with numbers and shopping and quests.

diablo 2 & BG2

Diablo 1/2 yes, BG2 no.

BG2 players picked it because it's an RPG. DS(beta holder) is nothing but group Diablo 2 action, with a little less excessive clicking...

I'm not saying it's a bad game but it's not BG2(or even close...)...

You can't control the leveling to any significant detail.
There's no *real* interaction between you and the NPC's or even between themselves.
There's no real amount of role play involved.

It's group Diablo2 and it's fun, but I'm still waiting for Icewind Dale II(out next month) and Neverwiinter Nights(out in 2 months)

Got it, put in about 90 minutes tonight.

I'm a bit saddened that it maxes out at 1024x768x32. ;)

And I agree that it's nearer to D2 than BG2.  But it's still fun so far.

That is still playing the stress beta of E&B since this afteroon :)

What do you mean, control leveling? You're leveling is controlled solely by which weapon/magic you use. Are you talking about gaining spells? Hell, I think this game gives more control over how/what you increase than BG2 did.

Roleplaying? C'mon, there has never been a game in which you roleplay. You just tell the computer what it wants to hear so it'll be most appropriate for your character.

Real interaction, if you mean that fappy script they put in BG2 to fall in love w/ the NPC's, I'm sure glad they didn't put real interaction in then.

You're basically correct in group D2 action, but I disagree when you say BG2 is a good RPG, but I've never seen a good rpg on the computer. And I've played a hell of a lot of them. But, it's a personal thing, I prefer pen and paper RPG'ing, which I'm luckily still doing with my friends, shit, I've been playing AD&D for over 1/2 of my life now.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed BG/BG2, but it was scripted for a kid, and I'm glad this isn't scripted so heavily. The one real problem with BG2's scripting is it made replayability very very low. Yea, you could branch off, but you had the same freaking inane conversations over and over and over again.

Neverwinter Nights is one I'm waiting for quite a bit, I have high hopes for that, but until it comes out, I'll be playing DS, and bitching cause my frame rates are in the 20's. :(

The main differences between this and D2 are, D2 had increasing levels of difficulity based on Normal, Nightmare and hell difficulty, I haven't gotten that far in DS, but I doubt it'll have nice replayability. BUT, and this is a big one, there is another multiplayer campaign coming out, which will be free, and you have the ability to create your own campaigns. Which I think is a big step compared to D2's Act 5 addon, and the inability to create anythihng for it, as far as I know anyway.

My main gripe about DS in multiplayer, you can't have a friggin mule, so you spent a huge amount of time running between shops to dump shit.

I still say 9.5/10, if they fix the framerate issue, or can magically make my 1ghz Athlon run faster, I'll give it a 10/10.

I disagree. In Dungeon Siege, the skills you learn only serve as a means to get more experience. In something like Baldur's Gate II, you gain skills to solve future *puzzles*/problems or issues that might afflict you or the team.

What? Uhm, no. That's why I was so blown away with BGII.

Not only did you have actual relationships(romantic and otherwise) wi th NPCs but you also had the ability to control the outcome. Want to be a bad guy? Sure. Want to be a good guy? Sure. Want to be neutral? Why not?
Want to be a god? Ok. Want to be a mortal? That too.

How you roleplayed your NPC team, lead to how much they trusted/liked you and that had enduring consequences on how they operated on your team *and* whether they stayed with you at all!

Heck, role play was imp. if only because it assisted your Charisma roles with new NPCs and their reactions to you!

*Nothing* like that happens in any Diablo *or* DS.

Neverwinternights will be even *better* and Icewind DaleII will be "more like BGII than ID I" according to Black Isle(yay!).

I never meant DS isn't fun. With a group of players? Sure, it can be fun but not by itself(for me anyways). After awhile it becomes.

Which is why I disliked Diablo quite a bit.

Fappy? Five NPCs had over 300 pages of scripting.
That's still 60 pages each!(some had more than others).
With a comment running about a quarter of a page, tops that's a HUGE amount of interaction compared to:

My best RPG experience to date has been *on* computer with BGII. I was expecting *so* much less and got *so* much more. I was impressed with the variety of races, classes, equipment, puzzles, quests, tasks, change of scenery, incredible plotline, scary ambiance *AND* over 300 pages of romance scripting alone...(not even touching upon regular scripting)...

I only played it once but I took it slow and enjoyed my first round. I'm not into finishing the game and hacking/slashing anything that moves. It sounded to me like you wanted Diablo II from the beginning.

No fucking way is DS a 10/10.

It's a good game. But not a legendary game.

8/10.

Mules rule but that's not exactly a HUGE earthshattering development.

Quantity != Quality.

When I said 'fappy' I meant, crap, shite, junk, ass. The scripting in BG2 sucked. Sure was a hell of a lot of it. It was a slightly toned down Margaret Weiss novel.

Man, if that's the best rpg'ing you've had, I wish you where up in my area, we'd show you what good roleplaying is like. For me, I've always hated romance in RPG's, I just don't think it's a good thing, so, having 300 pages of it, is a huge detraction. The plotline was ok, fairly standard fare, nothing exciting, but becoming a god is a huge Monty Haul type thing to do. Another detraction.

See, and for me BG2 moved way too slow, drove me nuts after a while. Some of the combat in BG2 wasn't balanced at all, you'd fight extremely difficult stuff, then have to spend 5 minutes chasing down diseased gibberlings.

But, I still say DS has the best elements from BG2, the quests, and a good multiplayer experience.

How much DS have you played? An hour, two? five?

I disagree, as you can't fucking save. This makes MP pretty damn pointless for, say, a husband and wife wanting to play the main quest on a LAN :(

BG you can save, which == fun.

Hell, Quake II co-op allowed you to save, which fucking rules.
