Starfleet Command kicks ass....

Check this out:

SFC, patched and modded to include different vessels.

It was a minor lan party with 8 of us against a MAX level Computer-controlled Borg Cube.

Notice the scale. Notice the chaos. Notice the different ship classes:

An Excelsior traveling right in front of the cube. A Gorn battleship to the left and a Galaxy-class ship to the right. Look closely and you'll see a Defiant-class ship right off the Galaxy's bow!

All with various shield, armor, speed, handling, power and weaponry systems. Literally thousands of different systems available!

Notice the modified modulated torpedo fired by my ship the Norway(in the middle). Weapons can all be modified and there are many different kinds. Disruptor, pulse disruptor, missile batteries, phasers(V, VI, VIII, X), plasma torpedoes, fusion cannons, hellkite projectors, plasma projectors, gattling/pulse phasor cannons, hellbore, and others...

Now remember that all the ships are modifyable. That we had a Starwars battle(to scale) last night.
That we had a Babylon5 vs. Battlestar Galactica vs. Andromeda fight last week.

Are you getting it yet?

Sweet. And before you guys mention something like Homeworld or WC or anything else like that, keep in mind I've played those. This one, imo, is much easier, much more intuitive and much, much , much more fun.

Only bad side? Despite the fact that we had my Norway, a Galaxy, a Defiant, an Excelsior, two Vorchas, on Romulan Warbird....we still lost the first three times.

It took the fourth fight to finally win it for us. Yours truly was the only one alive left in the final battle. ;)

Yay!

I haven't played it in awhile, but it was a fun tactical game that could turn into a great franchise with proper guidance in the strategical gameplay realm.

Maybe AYB can help in that regard. :)

Where does one get the patches for this game?

A great place to start is www.staryards.com

The site I listed above has a links section. If staryards doesn't have it...someone in the 10 plus major linked pages would.

Yahoo!

I have SFC I. There are a heckuva lot more ships for SFC II but I don't have two because I bought one in a Interplay pack for 5 bucks. (4 CDs 10 bucks)

SFCIII is being released:

Check out the improved graphics. And now, there's WARP! Fucking cool. The entire game takes place in the TNG universe(Better than TOS, imo)...

Maybe it looks good when you're playing it, but those graphics don't look that special.  Better than their predecessor, yes, but not that special.

I suppose it's because they're all 3D.

True, even Armada 2 looks better.

Yeah it was a great game.... I never got into SFC 2 however.

I used to play the old pen and paper game for hours at a time...

True, even Armada 2 looks better.

I'm running it on a piece of shit Wintel 933/128/TNT232,
so if the graphics suck, blame Compaq.

But be assured that moving from 16 bit textures to 32 bit. Upping the rez from 800/600 to a higher one and moving to enhanced lighting *would* make a difference in the game's graphics.

Also keep in mind that I shrunk the picture and saved it as a low-quality JPG to save *YOU* the download time.

BTW, Riso, check out staryards and *tell* me that the SFC2 graphics don't own Armada 2 backwards and forwards.

I saw an episode of Voyager today, which seemed to consist of about thirty minutes of that fat drawing eyebrows guy telling Janeway how ace she was and how cool it was to be stranded thousands of light years from home systems by her fuckwittedness. Oh, and some form of time travel bollocks (wibbly lines and everyone pretending not to know each other).  Voyager was fan-wank at it's worst.

I can't believe the same team is also behind the comfy, attractive Enterprise.

Apart from the ghastly mistake of the poodle-rock opening song, obv. Fantastic titles, but god, what were they thinking? A continuous Middle C tone would be better.
