You can download mods for newer TNG ships here: www.staryards.com
Check out their links. They have B5, Andromeda and even Star Wars ships available also. Dozens of various weapons and effects. Cloaking. Shields. Phase Cloak and abalative armor.
The game is fully scriptable and and all ship AI and weapons/hull/stats/shields/etc. are controllable through .txt files that are easily modified on excel.
Any time you have a Sovereign class starship up against a Vorcha, K'vortcha and a K'vort and you win because:
A. You trashed the Vorcha in a fac-to-face slugfest that left your frontal shields depleted and your forward phasers damaged...
B. Only to swing around and cripple the K'vortcha with a series of quantum torpedoes...
C. And then realize that your starboard phaser arrays are off-line and that you have to save your port-side weapons for the on-coming K'vort...
D. So you use auxilary power and pump it into your port shields and attenuate your tractor beam to repel the K'vortcha into an asteroid, thereby destroying it...
E. While simultaneously angling your stronger port shields towards the on-coming destroyer and unloading a torp-fest that leaves the ship adrift, without impulse and forward shielding...
F. And then to close in and fire a concise but powerful blast from your port phaser array to destroy the last vessel...
G. Tasting the victory of knowing that you trashed three vessels simultaneously, ala-ST movies...
Then, you'll realize what a great game it is.
Highly recommended. Price: $5.
Viper Racing is a kick-ass simulation/arcade racer that never seemed to take off the ground in '98 because, much credit to its namesake, the racer only had ONE car: The Viper.
Recent Cheats show that you can also play as a rally sedan, a crop duster, a sporty-mustang wannabe and an exotic horse-racer....
However, sites for Viper "mods" also have a long list of downloadable tracks, with complete "drive anywhere technology", allowing you to go off the track AND over 50 cars for download, including several types of lamborghini, porche, ford muscle cars and beemers.
Defitely a picker-upper. Price: $10.
On a last note, the new issue of MaximumPC has a great article on how to build and troubleshoot your own PC.
It's a great read for us business-non-techie ppl.
It might be useful for you too. :)

My buddies and I played a LOT of the board game for many many summers...
It's good to actually see what is going on.
My favourite thing to do...
Two shuttlecrafts. One filled with mines, one empty. Send the empty one in as you fire a load of missles. Most of the point defenses on the enemy ship take out the missles and he/she wastes a real phaser blast on the dummy shuttlecraft. The other shuttle comes in close, blows up, taking out the sheilds and damages some weapon systems, then you unleash hell.

Jesus Madan... sometimes I wonder what happened to your brain.
Yes you use a Mac, but to play Star Fleet Command you MUST be using windows. Read my post again, I did not say use a PC, I said use Windows.

Since when have I ever mentioned that I don't use Windows?
So then, why is this such a big deal?
Why don't you go back to some of my older posts Merlin and read my views on Windows.
You might learn something.

Virtual PC on a mac to run GNU/Linux, to run Wine to emulate a Windows box...
Sounds kinda silly.
