"The unexamined life is not worth living" -Aristotle

And here are some quoted lines from that book:

"...there is a lot to be said for Descarte's famous observation that in philosophy the natural light of reason within each of us is a better guide to the truth then past authority."

"Using the tools of reason, of logical analysis and conceptual clarificaiton, philosophy tries to replace what is doubtful and uncertain with something more coherent and stable. The goal in short is to move beyond mere belief, towards systematic knowledge and understanding."

-John Cottingham, Western Philosophy - An Anthology

I shall return back with more ramblings...

"...that the Christian religion not only was at first attended with miracles, but even at this day cannot be believed by any reasonable person without one."

"A wise man, therefore, proportions his belief to the evidence."

"When anyone tells me that he saw a dead man restored to life, I immediately consider with myself whether it be more probable that this person should either deceive or be deceived, or that the fact, which he relates, should really have happened. I weigh the oe miracle against the other; and according to the superiority which I discover, I pronounce my decision, and always reject the greater miracle. If the falsehood of his testimony be more miraculous then the event which he relates, then, and not till then, can he pretend to command my belief or opinion."

-David Hume, Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding

The last quote is sweet!

'If God is willing to prevet evil but not able, then he is not omnipotent; if he is able but not willing, he is not benevolent; if he is both able and willing, whence comes evil?'
-Epicurus(341-271 BC) ancient Greek philosopher

A favorite moral philosophy i live by (duty principle):

"Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, wether in your own person or in the person of any other, never simply as a means, but always at the same time as an end"
Immanuel Kant, Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table.
David Hume could out-consume
Both Schopenhauer and Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel.
There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
Socrates himself was permanently pissed.

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could pack it away
Half a crate of whiskey every day.
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
Hobbes was fond of his dram,
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart:
"I drink, therefore I am"
Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed!

One or two, yes.

One has to wonder how Shania gets into those trousers.

And Neve is yummy.  Boyish good looks.

if neve campbell has boyish good looks then color me pink with green stripes and then dump gold and silver stars over me.

seriously, i don't see anything about neve that suggest anything boyish or masculine... unless you mean boyish as in a very feminine way... which brings us back to square one...
umm yeah...

what the hey, this thread was supposed to be about philosophy!

I've met plenty of boys with similar appearances.

I killed a few kittens ( :( ) over them, too.

rowr.

Either way, she's a cutie.

i'm looking really hard at those pics and i still can't see her as boyish.

None the less if you like girlie looking boys then HongKong might be the place for ya since a lot of guys are very feminine. It helps that the chinese don't have facial hair and tend to have very smooth (good) skin in general.

There are times you'd be walking down the street and you wouldn't be able to tell if the person opposite you was a girl or guy because the girls here tend to have very small breasts.

having sex with a girl who has small breasts is quite disappointing in my opinion.

IT: What's mang?  Some new slang for 'man'?

Kind of. Think of it as a really bizzare drunken mexican/cheech and chong type accent for "man"

Then try yelling "Hay mang!" at random people, to guage their reaction. it's a h00t.

(alternatively, we could have AYB record it for us so that this little conundrum could be put to rest. I think I had an idea come on! An audio slang museum, because no one can read that weird "ma-ing" type bullshit they use in dictionaries. )

great editing skillz.. almost had me convinced the photo was for real and not doctored. It would be funny if the picture for real which would prove what i suspected all along: Neve Campbell has had a body transplant that fucked up which now makes her look like her neck and head is to big for her body...

i wonder if thats a pic of peterb with neve's head stuck on it?

i'm sure the combination of the words, neve, head, and peterb, right now probably killed a few more kittens...
