Wizardry 8--1st Person "old skool" rpg.

Score from 1-10: sucks.

Why: Any game that has no support for mouse look and uses a derivative of the daedalus engine(kinda like the build) has to suck sour frog ass. No playability. Boring as fuck. Textures sucked my ass and were muddled. Control and gameplay were the worst....there were none.

Nascar 2002--Racing game made by the makers of Viper Racing.

Score from 1-10: 3

Why: Uhm, any game that won't let you auto-adjust the camera view, won't show realistic modeling and bogs itself down by showing only 1/5 of the screen as the ACTUAL road(the rest is the steering wheel and car ceiling) *has* to suck. Oh, and it doesn't let you customize the controls. You heard me...you use THEIR setup....or nothing..

Well, it's nothing. Blow me.

AvPII--Recipient of AvP's fanbase.

Score from 1-10: 6

Why: Gorgeous graphics. Sickeningly scary atmosphere.
Then why a six? Uh, I have a Compaq PIII 933 with 128mb of RAM and a 32 mb of video.

New nVIDIA drivers and all.

Guess what... out of the five settings: ultra low, low, medium, high and ultra high...I could only hit framerates above 18 with THE ULTRA LOW graphic settings. Do you know what an alien looks like in ultra low rez? Yep, it looks like EVERYTHING else. Targeting at shadows...ooooh cool. NOT. The system requirements are stupid high.

Gameplay is average.

Great atmosphere + great graphics + so so gameplay + shitty framerate == Avg game at best.

Operation: Flashpoint--A military sim stressing realism. CGW game of the year.

Score from 1-10: 4

Why: You know that when CGW picked UT as game of the year over Arena that they were sniffing glue. Guess what? They're STILL sniffing glue. Game of the year?

For what? Driving around in a fucking jeep for a third of the demo?
For what? The WORST graphics of any modern game I've seen in YEARS?
For what? Looking worse than Shogo(I finished it yesterday), a game that was released in 98?
For what? Having horible gameplay and being slow? You'd think having ppl shoot at you would impel you to move faster, you know? These guys are fsking TREES.
For what? Having little soldiers in the distance so small to shoot at that they're LITERALLY comprised of a handful of pixels? Or the fact that they're practically the same color as everything else?
For what? For having poor sounds and having an automatic weapon shoot slower than automatic pistols I've taken to firing ranges?
For what? For getting killed because the AI on your team was so pathetic that they'd get wasted easily and offer you no support?

Sucks.

Oh, and on a side note a "friend" of mine that devs with me in Arena is one of the "in house" testers for UTII.

He liked UT more than I did and rated it equal to Arena. His tone has soured however after using the new engine. He says:

"it doesn't look much different from the original. More polies and more textures but no curves like in Arena althogh other games have it(Arena) and the player models don't look as good as the Arena models... The lighting is cool though"

Hm. Well I'm NOT looking forward to that one.

Looks like the only games I have on my radar are:

Doom III, Warcraft III, HOMM 4, Neverwinter Nights, Quake 4 and Freedom Force...

Wizardy 8:
Wizardy is one of the best RPGs. Just because you narrowminded Q3A guy says "it sucks" doesnt mean it does.

AvP2:
Let's see, you are bitchin at a 2001 game because you are still using a graphics card based on tech from 1998?
A new driver doesnt magically enhance the capabilities of a TNT2.

OFP:
Best military game ever. You should play it online. It rules.

Of course, you like Q3A, so that rules out anything that needs more then fast reactions.

I've played Flashpoint, but only multiplayer. The single player missions looked boring. I liked it a lot. With the mission editor and the mods for it you could do some fun stuff. Like get a chopper bail out over your target, die, go get annother chopper and repeat.

Ah Riso, if you weren't so confused, I might actually get angry:

Wizardy 8:

No, it sucks. Its graphics suck. Its total lack of controls suck and the fact that everything looks the same sucks.

ITS BORING. And that makes it suck even more.

Morrowmind and Neverwinter Nights, both coming out in less than six months will EMBARRASS this putrid piece of shit.

Until then, there's Baldur's Gate(and if you like playing as japanese school girls: Final Fantasy)...

AvP2:

A new driver doesnt magically enhance the capabilities of a TNT2.

A driver should improve framerate and should improve performance and stability. That's one of teh points of the driver.

Besides, 32 mb of video RAM is nothing to laugh at. According to Gamespy, the MAJORITY of players have a 32mb graphics cards...RIGHT NOW. Maybe a year/two years we'll all upgrade to 64/128 but you know what? To only be able to run the game on ULTRA LOW SUCKS. Period.

OFP:

Uh no. Ghost Recon is the best military game. It's actually FUN.
But you're right, mods for CS kick both their asses in graphics, fluidity AND fun.

Medal of honor will own them all.

Madan, the amount of VRAM (video RAM) isn't the real problem here, although more can help if you're texture bound.

The problem is that video RAM is slow. And the graphics chip is slow. Anything TNT or TNT2 based is seriously outdated, and modern games should not be expected to run well. Your processor is also pretty lowend now, and you've got very little RAM as well. You would see a difference if you upgraded to at least 256MB of RAM but your videocard is the big problem here as I see it. Riso's very much correct on that score.

IG is right, your video card sucks dead donkey balls.  This isn't a Mac, you know, you can upgrade your video card pretty easily... ;)

Nascar 4 was incredible, I'd imagine NR2002, which is just an update, would be unbelievable.

OFP is awesome.

The real sleeper hit of the past few months is SimGolf.  It's so much fun.

NC 2002 sucks.

OFP sucks.

Ghost Recon/ CS/ MoH are better.

No.

NR2002, if anything like n4, is probably awesome, and you're just wrong.

I'm never "wrong".

And Nascar 2k2 sucks.

Wizardry 8:

They come in on a fucking flying wing.
Then you fight crabs.

WTF?????

sux0rs. WizaRdray 8 = teh lose!

Mad: You may have a problem with your card or something, I was able to play AVP on my AMD 1 ghz, Geforce2MX @ 1024x768 on high detail no problem. Do you have a TNT vanta maybe? Hell, my laptop Mobility M1 8 meg played it fine, albeit at a low resolution.... AVP2 kicked ass, I thought it was a bit short, and seemed to be lacking some continuity on the missions between races, I'd like to see more of a sense of the same time when your playing aliens vs marines.. IE they are all doing the same world/time. I didn't get that too terribly much.

But, AVP2 gets huge minuses for lack of COOP PLAY. FUCKERS! How much fun would it be to run around  a majority of the missions w/ 6 of your closest friends in the dark killing aliens?

Yea, the TNT2 ultra's are a bit weak nowadays. If you want to upgrade your box, you have a few different choices for an upgrade. You could get a Radeon 8500 retail for that ( www.mwave.com www.newegg.com www.compusa.com ) ( well, 160 or so ) or a geforce2 ti 200 or even a geforce4MX ( don't don't don't, crap crap crap )....

That'd help tremendously...

I myself think I'm gonna try the Radeon 8500.
