Besides how quickly you forget my middle-earth fool! The defeat of Sauron is not the end of evil. Evil will try but in another avatar!

The ring was not destroyed as many believed. Instead the bonds that tied Sauron to the ring was severed by the molten lava of Mount Doom. The ring it self was protected by a powerful spell in the event someone might try to destory the ring in the fires of Mount Doom. However the spell was never intended to keep strong the bonds between owner and ring because it was believed if such an event were to happen the old owner was ill deserved of such a gift.

The story is long and I have no time to ammuse you....
