Well, whats your upload and download speed?

More importantly, what is the performance like during peak times? I hear that during peak times download streams can be pretty fucking bad!

Here in HK, the cable service *supposedly* has 10Mbps up and down load streams, but during peak hours its no better then a 56k modem or even worse.

ADSL service is nice for downloads but for some fancy web serving deal i'm stuck with a piddly 256kbps upstream although I have 3Mbps downstream. And just recenlty they upped the ADSL to 8Mbps but I don't get the upgrade because I already signed a contract for ~1year which only gives me 24/7 3Mbps connection. I'm hoping that over time they'll provide a free upgrade to 8Mbps. They did that when they went from 1.5 to 3 but that was only for peeps that signed up for the high usage plan which was what I had.

8Mbps would be sweet.

Man does the speed get you addicted. I REFUSE TO USE ANYTHING LESS THEN 1.5Mbps and even then it feels slow!!!!!!

ack!!!!

I have a T1.

IG you bring up an interesting question.

A T1 is 1.5Mbps
My current ADSL is 3Mbps

With Mbps alone, my connection should be twice as fast as yours yet I hear that T1 have some dealio that makes that not so true. So you know the answer? Or you just as clueless as I am?

I'm guessing overhead if anything otherwise at its best a 3Mbps *should* be twice as fast right?

Hmmm.....

I have a psychic connection not only to the internet, but also into each one of your brains.

I'm really not sure, but I think it has something to do with the fact that a T1 is the same speed (1.5Mbps) both upstream and downstream.

I would venture a WAG, that a T1 is a dedicated connection, and all things like modems, -DSL, and cable have to fight with each other. But I really can't say anything beyond that because networking-type stuff is not even something that interests me in the least.

I have two tin cans and a string.

I'm on an OC3 line, but it's throttled and mangled before it gets to me, plus runs over ancient 10 mbit networks to me.

Hmm, how can I find out the actual speeds? My networking tagnuttry is sadly lacking.

Ah, thanks, Jeremy. Hmmm...

640 kbps
Whatever the case, it's a damn sight faster than the old dialup.

AYB got 1611.

Not bad coming from a friggin 33.6 dialup methinks
