If you had money for software...

What would you buy?

BTW, anyone heard of any especially good Mac software for kids? No, I'm *not* joking. I have a brand new class outfitted with 30 iFruits and I needs me some software, pronto.

If you had money for software...

I have money for software, there just isn't any I'm after right now.

Eventually I want software and hardware that can immerse me in a completely authentic virtual world of my own design, that I never have to leave.

I'd buy

VS7
XP or 2000 Server

As far as Mac software for kids, How about "Starry Night", or "Red Shift": both Astronomy related applications.  Kids like that stuff.

VS is too much: 1.5k.

They must be smoking crack. I used to use Visual Interdev. Even with everything they've added, it is NOT worth 1.5k, imo.

Oh, and why would I get XP in a Mac lab? ;)

Actually, I *could* get XP for my school dev machine but 98 runs all of my apps.

So far I have:

Flash(for the school site)
An upgrade for the school's copy of Photoshop...

I need some mac edu software.

Ummm.... what do you want to teach this kids?  Isn't there some kind of curriculum that dictates (or at least advises) what software is needed?

Barring all that, what ages will be using these computers?

If nothing else, Civilization III would be my recommendation. ;)

My sw "wishlist":
Win 2K server (maybe .NET Server if it turns out wintacular)
a couple XP Pros
a couple Office 2K2s
Photoshop 6
MSDN Universal (at edu prices, thank goodness...)
an OS/400 installation CD along with possibly DB/2 and whatever webserver stuff runs on AS/400s
There may be more, but hell if I know. (hell, I'm making this shit up as I go along! ;) )

I want a computer OS that's x86-compatible, runs every program for every OS and every hardware architecture ever written, costs absolutely nothing, and makes me happy, rich, sexually irresistible and permanently wonderful.

O_O.

VS.NET Pro costs 650 quid here (it costs the same as version 6).

I can't see how this could equate to $1500.

I don't imagine for a moment that you need Enterprise Developer (which is ~1200 quid) or Enterprise Architect (~1500).

If you get the MSDN you don't need any of the other MS stuff, unless you want to use it for production purposes (and even then -- VS is fine for developing commercial software, and you're allowed to use Office for any Office-type tasks).

The VS7 Pro Upgrade is $550 according to MS's site.  I don't qualify for the rebate but maybe I could find it cheaper somewhere as part of a deal or something.

For some reason, I knew that, but I didn't know that.
I was mostly thinking "What would I have to buy to legalize all the crap I've to running now" and then it came to me "Oh yeah, I'd like MSDN too"

MSDN Universal

I'd be satisfied with a MSDN login from someone else.

And if I had money for software... I'd buy some hardware instead.

So, Madan, have you decided anything?
