I'm too lazy to look it up, so how do you:

How do you nix an application from automatically starting up on boot?

Between my task scheduler,
Norton anti-virus (can't remove...work machine),
PWS,
CF Lite,
RealMedia StartCenter(eww),
AOLIM(eww),
YahooIM(eww),

My network boot takes almost 2 minutes.

Thanks,
M.

There are settings within the program's options. I know thats the way realmedia and AIM are, pretty sure the rest of them are the same way. There's also a registry key you can edit.

Registry? No, Duff, thanks but I believe you've confused me with a Windows user. I'm a *Mac* user. I'm allergic to registry alterations.

OS version?!?

If it's Win9x, try running msconfig -- among other things, you can control startup options.

Of course, things like RM, AIM, and YahooIM put their icon in the system tray... right?  Then right-click the offending apps and change their startup properties.  The RM one takes a few extra steps, because you have to start its "SmartCenter" app and go to one of the tabs.  But its startup CAN be turned off.

I'm allergic to registry alterations.

How about to using the right mouse button?

Another great utility is called StartupControl Panel, allows you to modify the things that are automatically being loaded in startup. What it essentially does is edit the hklm/software/microsoft/windows/run runonce runservices runservicesonce keys...

Or, you can just edit those reg values.
