Ramones as number 2, disappointing.

Discuss.

Not sure why Nirvana rated so highly -- #5.

(And this from a fan.)

Robocop Q Einstein

Thu Jan 10 22:04:42 2002

Sly & The Family Stone = 12.

Pink Floyd = 48.

I'd say flip those.

I don't listen to old-man rock.

And I don't like Nirvana.

*shrugs*

Anyone have the issue?  Does Jethro Tull appear anywhere?  Just curious, since it was noted that Steely Dan and CSNY weren't included.

Is Bob Guccione Jr still with Spin?

well that list appears to be total shit.

That list is complete bs. Nirvana #5? Um no. And where the hell is Aerosmith?
Harbinger

Wed Jan 16 04:17:28 2002

Is it online anywhere, or only in print?
Imitation Gruel

Wed Jan 16 11:10:28 2002

well that list appears to be total shit.

So far I agree, but I need to see a copy of the whole thing to know for sure.

Blondie and New Order should be higher.

The top fifteen or so should be lower.

OK, now my next question is: What criteria determines ranking?

Cuz I just gotta wonder why some of these are ranked so highly, IMO.  F'rinstance, numbers 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, , 30, 35... I'm stopping there.

Not to mention the ones I question being listed at all.  But hey, I understand that's just my personal preference (and musical bias).  But why the fuck is Black Sabbath #29, and Beastie Boys #10?!  What is the amount/quality of drugs taken by the people compiling the list?

Hi, Pete.

Uhhhh... Korn?  #48?  What makes them so good as to even be listed?  I thought they blew 6 years ago when I was on the radio, and I've not heard anything from them since that time that would make me alter my opinion.

In my opinion, the list mostly sucks. Some choices suck less.

and where is REO Speedwagon?

I think the Beach Boys should definitely be on the list.

PaulHill

And where are Echo and the Bunnymen?

While I'm at it - "David Bowie and The Spiders From Mars?" Who the fuck compiled this shit?

Harbinger

Sat Jan 19 19:25:14 2002

They made it cool for white people to like "nigger" music.

No, that's what Run-DMC was for.  Or hell, even Sugarhill Gang.  BB came off as a parody, or at best a party band.  They might have expanded their capabilities since then, but IMO (note, IMO) I don't consider them altogether worthwhile enough to be included on this list.

DrPizza:

Yeah, I have to agree with that.  And I'd include AC/DC, but that's just a personal preference. ;)

PaulHill:

True, dat.  I'm curious to know why they stipulated "and The Spiders From Mars" -- is his other stuff non-existant?

And considering some of those who made the list, I wondered why some others were not included.  Like, for instance, Genesis -- with Peter Gabriel, of course.  I'm not a big fan, but I can understand their potential influence.

<joke>What, no N*Sync?!?</joke>

Who is Husker Du and Bad Brains?

Husker Du essentially created punk rock as it is today.  Bad Brains were a black band that showed that it was possible for people other than white suburban kids who were upset with their parents to make punk rock.

I was just going on the "david bowie" part.

Nah, Sugarhill Gang didn't really hit the white people as much as Beastie Boys.  Before BB, a "white rapper" was an absurd notion.  Run-DMC did gain respect in the white community, but it was still a genre that wasn't popularly accepted among the white community, at least not to the level that BB is/was.

I personally HATE the Beastie Boys and think they suck, but they a) opened up white people to rap and b) got white respect as rappers.

I think the Beach Boys should definitely be on the list.

Yes and no.  They were incredibly awesome back then, but they still play now.  Basically, it's fuckin' Mike Love and Brian Wilson, barely able to stand on stage, plus 15 other musicians.  None of them can hit the notes anymore and it's just disgusting.  It's like geriatric karaoke.  That, IMO, killed them.

Like, for instance, Genesis -- with Peter Gabriel, of course.  I'm not a big fan, but I can understand their potential influence.

Oh, GOD yes.

Harbinger

I think that just proves my theory that white people in general shouldn't be involved with rap. ;)

Reason enough to exclude them from the list.

I dunno...  I don't think anything can undo how fantastic they were in their day.

I'm normally of the same opinion, if only based on Vanilla Ice and Eminem, but people like iKon, the Verbal Hologram from Jedi Mind Tricks, and LMNO of the Battleaxe Warriors are actually decent, plus all of Anticon.

I dunno.

Gee, kinda like the Rolling Stones, no?

Bill O'Reilly had one of their biographers on his shitty show and was saying "Don't you think these are evil, horrible people?" and the guy said, "No, they're rock n roll."

It was cool, cause they do heroin.
