DuffMan buys a car...

Well after selling my craptastic mitsubishi a week ago, to a pakistani student who couldn't speak understandable english and barely could drive, for a whopping $1300, I have spent most of my free time trying hunt down a suitable duffmobile.

After having two attempted deals fall through on me, today I was finally able to drive home an arrest-me-red hot little Nissan 240sx. It's a 93 with 123k miles on it. It cost me $2850, and a small portion of my sanity, due to the sadistically insane dealer that I bought it from. This guy could tell that I really wanted the car, and tried to milk me for everything he could get. Being the extremely cheap bastard that I am, I fought him tooth and nail. This guy appears to get some kind of sick pleasure out of the whole thing. After many hours of arguing and whatnot, we finally got down to the point where I wanted $2850 and he would take no less than $2900. Then it got weird. He offered to let me toss a coin and if I got it right, it would be my price, if I loose I would agree to pay his. I got it right, and for some reason this pissed the guy off to an insane degree. But I got my car and didn't get screwed too badly. Now I need to get enough experience driving stick that I don't do some of the stupid things that I have been doing lately (I stalled trying to get into my own driveway, hah). Well anyway, here's a picture, mine's somewhat similar, but red.

Nice car!

Now we are Nissan brothers. In the states I have a Nissan Altima SE 99 (still have it).

Yay! the new Nissan Altima's look really nice though!

Flip a coin for the price?

Seriously, that's rather odd.

congraturation!

an s13... very cool. i may get one (or maybe an s14 depending on how much i want to spend) eventually.

not that much you can do to make them faster (short of swapping in an sr20det, or if you're really daring, a vg30de), but they're reasonably quick and handle very well. also, they are very reliable.

/me has spent a bit too much time at freshalloy.com ;)

I need a new AYB mobile.

I'm thinking it should be poop coloured.

I'm driving an *ultra-reliable*, loyal, deeply-sentimental Honda Accord (93). It's had NO problems since I've owned it and it only has 50k miles on it. It fits me like a *glove* but my folks are pushing me to get a new car. My sister says I need something more exciting.

Still, I don't fit inside the new Accords (97,98,99,00,01) My only hope is the 02, which I haven't tried. Apprently, the jokers in car design think that tall people don't exist.

Consequently, I don't fit in Saturns either. I might get a 01 Civic, since I *do* fit in that. Strange that their flagship car is tiny inside but that their small sedan fits me ok.

Poopy is right, the Nissan Altima for 02 is sweet. I might get that.

Still, I have been looking at a car:

It's by Hyundai, so it's probably reliable, has a great warranty, it's been co-designed by Pinifarina's studio(Ferrari) and it's only 13k.

Here's a pic:

The new Tiburon:

Problem is, it looks a bit cramped on the inards. :( I might not fit.

Gorgeous ain't it?

Apparently all automotive engineers are 5'9" tall. I drive a Chevy Lumina Euro (The small one, there are "full size" Lumina's too) and unless I slouch a bit, I rub my head on the cieling. This is bad. 1 f33l j00r p41n.

Whoa!  that's pretty damn low mileage.

'Grats on the car, glad to hear that you got something better that pos mits. :)

And I feel your pain as well, my good ole ford ranger is about to buy the farm, I'm having a oil pressure problem, takes about 2 minutes to build up pressure on a cold start, and can randomly drop pressure while driving. I think the pressure drop is actually a bad oil sending unit, but with the lack of a shop since I moved, I really haven't explored it. But the low oil pressure on startup scares me, it's either the checkvalve in the pump causing the pump to have to dry sump up the oil on a cold start, or the inlet tube is caked with shit and pretty much plugging up the holes. I've seen both happen on the craptacular 2.3 ford engines. And to make matters worse, the only good way to get the damn pan off is to yank the motor halfway out, which I am *not* inclined to do in the parking lot of my apt. So, I live with it, and listen as my engine slowly disentegrates every time I start it. Yea, a shop could prolly do it, but I don't have the 1g it's gonna cost to replace the pump ( which would solve it either way ).... so, fuck it.

Oh yea, I quit my job today, I'm unemployed. :(

Damn it I wrote a reply but IE crashed on me! :(

Then whaddya know. Msoft releases IE 5.1 for the mac, updated with many bugs squashed. Ho Ho HO! So i downloaded the updated IE and lo and behold it hasn't crashed at all yet. Which is good because IE is the only app that I have that crashes on my mac. Everything else works fine though.

Heh, I might swap in an SR, but probably not for a while since it's running well, and the mechanic didn't find anything majorly wrong with it. Maybe by then it will actually be legal to do. I post at Freshalloy occasionally too. Have you ever heard of Zilvia.net? They've got a pretty good forum over there.

The new Tiburon:

Yeah I like that car, especialy the interior. Not so sure I like the Hyundai engines though. Here's an odd coincidence that links these two posts together. Here's a thread I started a while ago, at Freshalloy about the new tiburon.

Well now I need to get some snow tires to replace these nearly bald, underinflated tires that came with the car. Hopefully it will make my car a little less deadly to drive in the chicago winter. :D

Shitty Japanese cars.

They are just a notch worse than American ones.

"You know, I *still* don't fit in the 2001 Accords. :)

I sat in it. Moved the steering wheel up, the seet back, everything....

Still had my knees rubbing against the steering wheel.

I have a Taurus and before that I had a Pontiac Bonneville.

The Bonneville was a 5000+lb. ass gremlin-on-wheels. Ugly as hell; no roof padding, ugly cloth seats, no A/C or radio, extremely ponderous, and the final straw to get rid of it was that the power locks failed so one night when I went home from work I had to smash out the driver's side window to exit the fucking piece of shit.

I did learn to drive on the thing, though. Should have kept it to use as an art project.
