I jsut got MS Office 98 through educational channels,

I can't save anything as it gives me "File Permission error".  I am at a loss at what to do.

So if either Poopy or Mad! can lend me a hand, I would be very very happy :)

right now I'm a bit frustrated and am going to do this essay on my main rig.

I have office Standard for the mac.  It reminds me of how MSFT wrote a program that conflicted with open transport extensions, and it's a fucking word processing progam.

It reminds me that I will always use apple works, MSFT 5.1 Word, or Wordperfect on macs.

I WILL NEVER GIVE MSFT ANOTHER FUCKING DIME FOR A PROGAM TO RUN ON THE MAC OS.

But, that's just me.

I can' try to help, but I'd need more info.  When exactly does the error message appear?  What's the precise message?  What Office app are you in when it happens, and it it easily reproducable?

I did a quick search on the Microsoft Knowledge Base, and found [url=http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/psssearch.asp?SPR=ofm98&T=B&KT=ALL&T1=7d&LQ=file+permission+error&PQ=PastQuery&S=F&A=T&DU=C&FR=0&D=kbOffice98Search+OR+kbPowerPt98Search+OR+kbExcel500Mac+OR+kbOutlook98Search+OR+kbWord98Search&LPR=&LNG=ENG&VR=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fsupport%3Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fservicedesks%2Fwebcasts%3Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fhighlights&CAT=Support&VRL=ENG&SA=TECH]13 hits[/url], though I'm sure that some aren't applicable.  Check out that page and see if anything helps.  If not, please post more details here.

If someone wants to send me a PPC (preferably Gx) Mac, I'll use it for testing.  ;)

Mac OS IE works fine. All MS apps aren't poison for the Mac.

Although O is better....

As for your problem, I really don't know what it could be. I have MS Office on my iFruit and I installed it....it just works.

My only guess is that whenever my Mac would give me file permission errors(usually when I downloaded Win-format Q3A filez), although the Mac OS converts Win format into Mac automatically, it might still be "locked".

Ctrl click the file you're trying to save into(there should be *some* trace of it in the directory you're trying to save into, and then go into "info" (or the equivalent, depending on your settings: give information...whatever). There should be settings for lock/unlock. Unlock the file.

I know that my DBs, downloaded from my work(98) couldn't be deleted until I unlocked those files. They'd just sit in my trash otherwise.

Anyways, you might want to see if that works.

If there's no existing file, then your job is slightly more difficult. Check the CDs on of the Mac Office. What version are they for? Make sure your Mac OS is at *least*  8.5. Then, simply drag the extension file into the garbage. Restart the Mac and restart the app. You might have a corrupt extension file. A new one should be re-created when you reboot and reload.

If that doesn't work. Re-install.
