This has been a nearly content-free post and thread.

Consider yourselves informed.

So that is Poodoo's fabled "Rampage" board that would have barely squeeked by a GeforceII GTS.

That company sat on one technology for too damn long.

What is that?  a 4-way SLI setup?

It's so pathetic it's almost cool!

Mother of pearl.

I want that board. But I don't want it $2,000's worth. I wonder if there are even drivers for it.

The seller says it works in Windows 98/Me/2K/XP. This presumes the existence of drivers.

Of course, he could be lying, so caveat emptor.

The auction is up to $2,125. Insane.

Actually, I can see Technology collectors spending exactly that or more on a nearly non-existant piece of PC tech. Sometimes the performance of a piece is not what determines it value so much as it's uniqueness.

If it sheds some perspective on the subject: I paid 400 for an Apple ][gs merely because it had a Rev C Fast SCSI card. Hell, I'd pay another 4 just for just a 3.5" superdrive controller if they could be found ever again. Some of us are just freaks ;)

Meh. I don't believe in paying more for items just because they're rare (I'm not a collector).

Essentially: It's rare? Who cares? Not me.

It's rare as in only 50 evar produced.

And yes,  it is a V5 6000 which utilises 4 VSA chips in SLI mode, hence 4xSLI.

(I'm not a collector)

Then that auctoin is not for you  Some people are. (::thinks about the AS/400 sitting at home  ::)

Yeah, a GeForce pisses all over it, but

a) it's fill rate is fucking incredible
b) It reminds me of the Airship in most Final Fantasy games
c) If you want to dim the lights in your neighbourhood, this is the way to do it

I wonder if that thing would have required an AGP Pro slot. It came with its own power supply so perhaps not.

Would have been interesting, but it never materialized.

Ah well...c'est la vie, unfortunately.
