Did we *make* terrorists?

"USA: Twin Towers, you reap what you sow" is the sign displayed in a state supported demonstration in that bastion of freedom and civil liberties known as Iraq.

<obvious sarcasm>

Well, this sign suggests that the US's meddling is what causes terrorists to do what they do.  The US isn't a perfect entity, but this thought is outrageous.

You know why the US fuX with Iraq, et all?

It's because they choose to bring this type of shit into the world.  They'd pull terroristic crap whether or not the US was involved.  They do it amongst themselves all the time.  They just don't do it as a last, desperate resort against an imperialistic meddling nation with vastly superior forces.  They do it because they are fundementally wrong and that is why the US fusks with them.

Not vise versa.

The governments that harbour this type of excrement are the ones about to reap what they sow.  Not innocent people in a building.

Sadam, oh one of questionable parentage between a hippo and an Austrophalius.

It is you who is about to pay the piper.

Or you Bin Laden who art the greenish, liquidy anus excrement of a demon of the ninth level of hell.

This is the day of reconing for you and your brand of cowardly tactics.

and the gavel is now falling.

Would these attacks have happened if we had a completely isolationists policy towards the middle east? Probably not. So in that way you could say that we brought it on ourselves.

However, our presense anywhere in the world is overwhelmingly positive. We made plenty of mistakes durring the cold war that we thought was a trade off for security from a more important enemy. Hindsight is 20/20.

I feel as the most powerfull country in the world, we have a responsibility towards human rights and towards human life. Even 6000 or so deaths isn't a sufficient reason to turn our backs on the oppressed of the world, who's causualties make our tragedy look like a minor offense. If this turns us into a sort of "international police force" in the eyes of some, then so be it. We should draw the line at respecting the rights of governments that govern by the will of the people. But we should do everything we can to prevent human rights violations. If this causes some people to be violently opposed to the US to the point where they take terrorist actions, then they need to die plain and simple. Their lives are not worth thousands of innocent peoples lives.

Well, who knows.

The US has armed/equipped terrorists in the past (bin Laden being an obvious example of this).

The US's foreign policy certainly hasn't helped.  Short-term gains might have been made (in helping, say, the Arabs fight the Soviets, or the Iraqis the Iranians), though that is somewhat dubious (IMO), that have had longer term downsides (both Iraq and now the Muslims).

I think that the justification for such action was minimal in the first place.

Other issues such as the support for Israel are bound to gain unpoluarity in the area (the Israelis aren't exactly angels).  The tradeoff appears to be, "have a friendly country in the Middle East that pisses the Middle East off, or lose the friendly country but not piss the Middle East off".  Apparently the former was better; I'm not convinced that it was.  If the US stop propping up Israel it's said that the Israelis will be wiped from the face of the earth... well, maybe.  Perhaps Israel should have thought about that before invading the West Bank.
