My Homeroom class WON!

Madan

Mon Oct 8 23:45:51 2001

My homeroom class won the United Way drive for NY by bringing in 540 bucks in 5 weeks....

All this from a POOR class of inner-city students. Since we did so well, they gave all my kids a free tshirt, they had a pizza party(we took pictures for the web site) and I gave them each a book/ruler/certificate.

I'm *so* proud of them.

It was a nail biter too....

Our competing class is run by a nice colleague. We were sending each other menacing notes(kidding) and we whipped our kids into a frenzy.

She was leading me by a 100 bucks on the last day but she went lax and gave up(thinking she'd won) and we brought the record-breaking 140 bucks in on the last day.

Yay! They rule!

YAY FOR KIDS!!!!! They are the only part of the human race I don't hate. They still have the potential to learn all that is beautiful and to live all that is beauty. We NEED to teach our kids to grow up with peace and love as the corner stone of thier existence.
It when we become adults we give up on so much, our innocence, our imagination.
We especially need to take care of kids that are living in the worse conditions. :(

Its always been my aim to make lots of money only so that I can pump it back into the places that need it most, like with kids who live in the bad parts of the city and have a crappy out look on life because of their immediate enviroment is so bleak.
I give props to you Madan! Good work!

Duff, the food and prizes were paid:

30% staff pocketbook
30% my pocketbook
30% school pocketbook.

They deserved it.

AYB, you couldn't be more off. She's MARRIED. She's just been really good to me. I was a rookie and she took me into her team. I work wi her husband. He's been good wi me too. Both used to work there. She just left to a diff school for a promotion...

See this is why our country's system for funding schools sucks. Teachers shouldn't have to pay out of their own pocketbooks.

Not to be a big bubble-burster here, but jest yesterday a number of my wife's relatives were complaining about the United Way, wrt how only a small fraction of money they raise goes to the charities/recipients in question.  I haven't done any investigative work on this; I'm just repeating their complaints.

(BTW, the people who mentioned this say they now only give directly to the charities in question, and not to the UW.  They mentioned a UW scandal from a few years ago, where the director was embezzling funds and lived in a $3M house.  Just take it FWIW.)

Duff....

We've been over this in Ars(not you personally).

If money is taxed...ppl bitch.

If money isn't taxed...ppl bitch.

Either way, I've got to keep going and work hard for my kids...

It's not so much that we need more taxes, it's that they are used poorly. My High School spent $10,000 on this retarded looking mural in the cafeteria just because they had nothing better to do with the money.

The whole system of using local property taxes to fund schools is fucked up. All schools should get equal funding based on number of students, and maybe some other unique expenses. We should just do away with all local school boards and run schools from the state or national level.
