AYB knows Dvixen and Magus have been working on one behind the scenes, and now AYB wants to try his hand in this. AYB wants something that can scale, but have some unique features.

AYB is also open to some ideas on the storyboard of this PW, but the real work will be the sKrYpTiNg. Here is what AYB is looking at doing:

1) introducing 'Keeps', being much like houses are in Mordock except that only one Character can occupy that keep.
2) Having stuff put in certain chests save the contents to a file so that the stuff survives a serber reboot.

:)

Here's another myth.

"Software Engineering".

The field is nowhere near mature enough to be called engineering. If Civil or Mechanical Engineering were as shitty as Software, we'd have buildings and bridges and god knows what else spontaneously exploding all the time.[/quote]

Mordock has this in the banks, but I'm not sure if anyone's used it, or even how well it works.

Incredibly buggy. Sometimes items get lost, sometimes not. Same goes for cash.

I've been thinking about what neat theoretical ideas one could put in a persistent world NWN mod, if one had infinite time and dedication.

One of the ideas that I find quite appealing is to have actual wars between factions, and players can help out or hinder one side or another with quests and actual battles, and factions could take over cities and territory from the other sides.

This would be a nightmare to script I'm sure but it would be really neat, like a giant game of RISK, and if anyone ended up taking over the whole realm, then there would be a special endgame for each faction, maybe the ruler would turn evil and the players would wind up being rebels and attacking the stronghold or something.

That's a good idea Jeremy and AYB was thinking about it too. Basically, it makes the world bigger than the PCs. Choose a side and go kill things! Have the serber reset when one side wins

:)

There's a server setting for reloading the module as soon as everyone logs off. No need for manual resetting once the war is over.

Just wanted to pop in to report that, at Target, the NWN Diamond version has recently dropped to $20.

Diamond includes NWN, both retail expansions (Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark), as well as 3 Bioware modules (Kingmaker, ShadowGuard, Witch's Wake).

Yeah, I picked up a copy for myself. I need one for my work PC! ;)
