The story of OSY and how to read it

OSY started as an idea I had a long time ago about a place where the complete absurdity of operating system and platform flamewars could be discussed in a relaxed and silly manner.

I set up my own website, www.pegasus3d.com and a discussion board, which I called "OSY" because of Apple already taking the name OSX. The site went live on 3:06 pm on Feb. 25, 2001 running Ikonboard.

I upgraded to PHPBB a little over a year later, and that's when the forum really took off. At its peak we had over 1000 registered users, and over 50 highly active people (users with more than 1000 posts).

In 2011 I switched over to Monarch, the precursor of newLISP on Rockets which the board runs on to this day. I was not able to directly import everyone's account and password, although I did restore people's old avatars and post counts when they registered for the new system.

Forum use in general has dwindled from those heady days, with competition from Facebook, Twitter, and other social media. But the OSY forum will continue remain open indefinitely. And who knows what the future holds?

AYB remembers other things. OSY was also created as a reaction to the absurdity of platform wars and platform warriors, which we first gen smammers all were. It in its heyday was essentially a metaforum of Arstechnica's Battlefront.

oh, and what is a "smammer"? It is someone who flaunts smam.

    um, what is smam, exactly?

    SMAM!!!!!!

    that's what it is...

OSY has historically had somewhat unique method of putting a trouble ticket in. For instance:
