Yeah, that's not fucking annoying. Postwhoring is all fine and good, but rampant front page clearing chaps my ass. I hate hate hate going and looking for updated topics to reply in. It's rather a PITA.

just turn off image downloading in IE. It's the same thing. (your text browser will still d/l the whole page, it'll just look like ass) that should take care of most of it.

That, and I think you're exaggerating your modemular angst. I surf from home on a 26.4kbs connection shared amonst several boxes. Just remember: it could be worse.

I think I'd go cuckoo if I had to do that. Remember, I've been on a T1 in this dorm, and a T3 in the general university common. Modem = suck. Broadband = win.

And if I get a text-based browser it won't even bother with colored backgrounds, thus saving even more time.

I used to do my college programming assignments on a C64 with 40-column screen, and connect to the mainframe at a whopping 1200 baud.  You can survive.

While I do like surfing on the DSL line at work, I'm not suffering too badly when I'm on 56k dialup at home.  I'm not downloading ISO images while at home, but you'd be surprised how much web browsing can be done on these lowly modems. ;)

I agree, but in the spirit of OSY, I've gone ahead and started searching for the good topics to bump to the front again, so we can all get back to whatever it is that passes for normal around here.
