It's about damn time, Comcast. Now you'll only need to suckle my left nad instead of both (with the obligatory anal cleaning afterward).
I'm one for colorful imagery, though I lack the subtle wit and charm of the esteemed msrs. Pizza and Merlin.
Oh, and...

Hurrah!

The install was going OK on my XP box until I got to the point where I had to enter my assigned username and password... when I found that such info hadn't been provided. So I had to call Comcast about that.
I got the info after a few minutes on hold, then got off the phone and entered the info. At that point, the install program they provide tries to get an IP address and ping some sites to check connectivity. This failed. Repeatedly. It received an IP address from their DHCP server, but I couldn't ping anything, anywhere -- especially not their DHCP and DNS servers. So browsing was out of the question.
I then call them back. Get the first level tech, who had me go through the standard repertoire of n00b things to check, none of which helped. (Reboot, power cycle the modem, etc.) When he got stumped, he passed me to a 2nd level tech, who did a lot of dicking around, only to tell me 30 minutes into the call that "there's a problem with the DNS servers in PA." So he doesn't offer anything other than to end the phone call.
But wait, it gets better. After picking up my wife at work, I decide to try their software on one of my 2K boxes instead. (Note that, while I left to get my wife, I had my XP machine ping one of their DNS servers constantly; it failed every single time.) Install the software, ran thru the tests... and the mofo worked. Five minutes after having failed constantly for over an hour, because of their "DNS problems." ^10
Aside from this minor horror story, it could take about 10 minutes to get everything set up, assuming that everything goes OK. Here's hoping that your install goes quite a bit smoother...

All that had to be done was to hook it up, turn it on, and let my Win2K box grab the IP. I didn't install any software for it.
Sorry it was such a pain, Harb, but glad to have you in Cable Modem Land.

Oh, and they see fit to change the anim mogo in IE to be the Comcast logo. Insidious, I tell you. Of course I deleted that post haste.

Ever since they bought out MediaOne, there have been nothing but problems.
Once they deleted my modem accounts by accident, but continued to bill me for those accounts. When I moved my cable modem and turned it back on, no signal, called them and they said "Whoops! someone accidentily deleted your account a few weeks ago" (cable modems don't reset unless they are powered down). They wanted me to wait 4 days till they turned it back on because that department was in training... needless to say, it was back on within the hour, no AT&T putz is going to keep me off line for 4 days...
