am about to install this on my parents new PC
read this:
"You are required to affix this Certificate of Authenticity label to the exterior of the PC"
My response:
Fuck you!
It is against the law to require attachment of anything to a PC other than a dongle (or detachable genitals) to a computing device at my residence.
you know, you go out of your way to have a legit license when I have an EDU XP-pro disc that requres no activation only to see this silliness.
MS is not the law, AYB is!
so please. Fuck off and die bitch!

So what's the problem, AYB? It's not like MS is going to send an inspector
It's just the idea that they think they can unilaterally and unarbitrarily dictate the law.
....that would be Sun.
do they really?

As far as the sticker goes, don't affix it to anything! I did that once with a Win2k sticker and then one of our programmers took the case to make a new computer out of, and we had the CD but no license key! I had to find a cracked key on the 'net just to use a properly paid for, licensed, purchased, bought copy of Win2k WHEN I HAD THE ORIGINAL CD IN MY HAND!!! (We did get the sticker back, and I have it in front of me right now, but the point is made)
That was really lame. Microsoft can basically bite me, they make $1 billion in profit EVERY MONTH, and yet they refused to honor my $50 mail-in-rebate coupon on a Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro 2 stick even though I complied with EVERY LAST DETAIL of the mail-in. So basically I don't intend to ever pay Microsoft for anything again ever until I get my $50 back. So there. (Of course at work we have to pay for every damn copy, but that's work, I'm talking me personally)

I think the chances of someone sent by MS to check your particular computer case for the CoA is, frankly, rather low. Lower than RR ever admitting he's made a mistake, certainly. :p
If you ever feel guilted into attaching it, just stick it on there with some clear tape so that it can be removed if necessary. I recently updated my case (think Alienware ;)) and I certainly couldn't be arsed to try to remove a sticker from the old and try to re-stick it to the new.

No, RR is a mistake.
That sounds true enough.

They're normally good about things like that. Their replacement policy for their mice, for instance, is great.

Got back a form letter six weeks later. "Sorry, we cannot give you a refund". No explanation.
Anyway, I like Microsoft, but if they aren't going to pay me my $50, I'm not going to pay them for any more of their products. ;)
