Ok, Windows xPerts. I'm havin' trouble with my SQL Server 7.

I use SQL Server 7 to log into a remote SQL Server 7 DB and it used to let me in, via Enterprise Manager but now, this machine(work machine, Win 98 on T1/Win network) gives me this error when I try to start my EM in SQL:

"The selected file is not a Microsoft Management Console document."

WTF? It won't let me in. :(
It won't let me in with the SQL on or off.

Is it possible the admins fuXored up my priviliges or something when I wasn't looking?

I seem to remember some MDAC site open on my machine.

If they downloaded the new MDAC on to my machine, wouldn't that cause trouble?

This is the error when I try to open the Query Analyzer:

Unable to connect to server \\SQL06.INNERHOST.COM:

Server: Msg 4062, Level 16, State 1
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database '<ID>'. Using master database instead.

Ok, I figured it out. Fuck. The IT dept. told me it was my hosting company. The hosting company told me it was the IT.

????

Cono la MIERDA@!

So, I "cheated" by circumventing both QA and Enterprise Manager and used MMC instead to enter the remote db, after one of the tech dudes at the hosting company mentioned it. Cool dood.

QA finally straightened itself out after the hosting company set the db to ODBC permissivity. BUT, I still have to reinstall SQL 7 on my machine because it keeps conflicting with my MMC.

Uhm, FUCK. Oh yeah, Win 98 ROCKS.
And yet the staff REFUSES to get me XP or 2k. *sigh*

So bring in a copy and install it yourself!  Sheesh.

Uhm, if I do, they'll terminate all my software licenses.

I work for THEM, Jeremy.

Whoa, talk about anal...  Your IT people suck.  They won't upgrade you to a proper OS, and they won't let you do the upgrade yourself?  Sheesh, I'd bring in my own computer if that were the case.   Probably my iBook.

We're all on Win2k at my office now.  It didn't take long after I was given the IT reins.  Everyone is much happier, and nobody complains about their computer crashing any more.
