I've had enough of this fucking hellhole I live in.
As most of you know last summer I decided to make a 'life change' and move out to the West coast, well, I picked fucking poorly, and wound up in Asshole Oregon ( or HippieVille Ore ). After 9 months of being here, I've gone through 3 jobs, ( one of which was good, with a good company, but it drove me batshit, so I figured I should get another job, baaad idea )... and have been successfully getting screwed in the highest unemployment of the nation.
Now, I finally got a job I thought would be nice, however it's in a Chrysler dealership, and once again, I'm getting fisted with minimal lube.
So, I think I'm gonna move *again* and head back to my home stomping grounds and get a decent job ( take me all of 10 minutes back home I'm sure ) and .... finish school. School's boring, it's all refresher for me, but I never realized just how important that paper truely is, and how much it means to *me*.
Hey, I need a favor, everyone here call me a fucktard, and maybe whap me upside the head once or twice.
And if I make another hugely stupid decision ( posting about it before I do so ) someone's gotta come kick my ass.

I won't call you or a fucktard or physically assault you, but I will give you a reassuring hand on the shoulder. I feel your pain, as I've been mostly unemployed for nearly a year now... May 7th will be my 'deathday.' :(
I'm fed up with all the resume-sending (300+ at last count) and the complete dearth of interviews (though I do have one tomorrow). I would very much like to go back to school at finish my History degree, but that's only for bragging rights. I have a BS in CompSci, but it's changed very very much in the last decade and I'd really love to do it again just to get the exposure to things we didn't have "in my day" (which was 95% programming).
Alas, I don't have the cash on hand to do that, and even if I could go back full-time, then I wouldn't be able to have a good enough job to support the mortgage, 2 cars, the wife... ;)
So I can only offer my digital support. Go back to your roots, where you'll feel more comfortable. Find a job (if only to get you started) and see what summer classes you can get into. We understand.

You sent out 300+ resumes and a shitload of interviews and didn't get a job in the past year?

No, I sent out 300+ resumes and have had a total of 6 interviews so far.
I have been doing some consulting work to make neds meet, but I'm not fighting off headhunters and recruiters like in years past.

I wish you the best of luck on finding a good job, it seems like it's getting harder and harder to do so lately.
So, I have made my decision ( been mulling it over for past few weeks ), and here it is: I will work at my current job ( with minimum wage at times, it's comission based ) until I get enough money to pay for a few months rent, and enough to move back on. After going back home, I will pay rent till the lease is up, ( least I can do, my roommate is a damn good guy ) and then get my arse back in school, and get me edumatated. Or, I could forsake it all, and go live in a commune, ( which will never happen, I am a partial redneck ).

I was unemployed for almost 4 months, before I just jumped in as a teacher.
But, again, I say:
Why don't you try to find a tech job for a school or the government?
They NEED people...

First positive thing that's happened to me in a while.
E_M: Man, is it that bad on the East coast too? I thought it was localized here in Ore. I've done about that many resumes, but haven't had an interview yet, hell, only 1 place so far have even called my references.
Mad: I don't have, as of yet, the right paperwork to teach, but I hope to change that with school.

The schools need network/tech admins. Pay is similar. Work is different.
What I wouldn't give to have you here instead of our current admin....
The guy has me waiting for 16 weeks and I STILL can't print on my class printer.

So, right now the best option is most likely moving back home and just working my arse off for a while to get things back on track ( school, work, work, school ).
16 Weeks is a hell of a long time, what's his excuse? being a FuckTard?

I have no real qualifications of any kind. The job I work now, is sort of entry level, but it's also intense, and occasionally challanging. I make not too much, especially being part time, but I will have the oppertunity to make somewhere in the 40s (which is a lot for a 20 year old, with no degree) as soon as our hiring freeze goes away.
That's the thing, you gotta start somewhere at the bottom and move your way up in a company. No matter what you know about tech, you don't know about the different unique systems in every company, and you don't have a working relationship with everybody there.
When the economy is good, and companies are expanding, there going to bring in people based on their qualifications. To expand you have to bring in new people. When the economy is bad, companies look within, and only hire at the very bottom.

I don't mind start at the bottom, that's what I expected. I'm just not being looked at, so hopefully a degree will help me there ( along with the certs I plan on getting )
