Where do you gents buy your assorted hardware and software from.  I have gone through tccomputers.com in the past, but they are farkin spendy.  I need suggestions where I can pick up a new HD and XPhome for cheap.

thank you. :)

I used to order from the same store that I bought my prebuilt computers from, Labtop Computer in Burnaby/New West.

Now, as I work for a company that manufacturers DVRs, I just add whatever I need to the list of components that we are ordering that week from Supercom and Lin Haw out in Richmond.  That way I get them wholesale.

BTW you want XP Pro not home.  What you really want is the corporate version XP Pro without the WPA... ;)

XP home would do just fine, as I am planning on it being used for a rig I'm slapping together for my folks.

I've boughten stuff from the agora for this allready; a K6III-450 and mobo combo for $40 and a crucial stick of 256 for another $50.

I may just have an appropriate non WPA version of XP Pro.  I got it via educational channels, installed in on my dually, and never saw any message saying I had to register.  Of course, it was an upgrade from the 2000 I had been running and all network settings were allready configured for net access through my LAN, so I'm wondering if it registered without me knowing.

I've heard good things about Newegg but I've never used them.

Edit: AYB, if you've already put educational-licensed software on one computer, you can't put it on another. That's piracy.

I am aware of that, hence why I am looking for a licence :p

I'm lucky enough to have several so-called "mom-n-pop" stores if I need to get something in a pinch and at a decent cost -- compared to the big chains like CompUSA and Micro Center.

But even better, there are MarketPro computer shows where various small vendors get together and under-price each other. ;)  Just was at one this morning where I picked up an Alienware case for $92 with 2 case fans, as well as 2 IDE drive trays for $10 each.  I was contemplating a GF4 but definitely can't justify the price right now.  I can get an OEM SB Audigy for ~$68 though, which is about what I paid for my SB Live Value way-back-when.

If I need to mail-order, though, it's usually from Axion or Newegg.

Hardware usually from newegg.com or azzo.com
Software? Games from EB, OS's and stuff from Microsoft Employee Store.

Madan is cost elastic.

Madan gets his hardware through the school sys but all of his personal software is obtained via Office Depot/Comp USA. ;)
