New KVM & Oddness

Well, I went out and bought a generic KVM. I know, I know, but I didn't have a lot of cash to spend, and I 'absolutely had to have one' mainly cause my 14 inch monitor for my server died, and it was cheaper to get a 4 port KVM instead of another monitor.

However, here comes the weirdness. I use a MS Intellimouse Optical 5 button mouse. Worked perfectly, but with this new KVM it pretty much ignores all input from the 4th and 5th button's, causing it to behave just as a 3 button scroll mouse. This only irratates me in 2 ways, the primary, and most importantly, is I use the 4th button for going back one page, and having to go up to the upper left corner is *really* slowing down my one handed web surfing. Actually, it's just annoying me. What I think is happening is the KVM is simulating a mouse on the PS/2 port, and it's simulation isn't programmed for 3 buttons ( pretty much to keep sending a ps/2 mouse signal to the non selected computer so it won't go batshit )...

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I have tried installing the MS drivers and 'forcing' it as a 5 button, but that fails, it always defaults to standard on a bootup.

One solution I don't really want to do is use 2 mice, I will if I have to, but I find the ease of 1 mouse/keyboard/monitor is really nice.

Other than that, this Vastech 4 port KVM is really sweet, not capable of huge resolutions, but adequete for my meager needs. Keyboard swapping ( sadly no software swap, but I can live with that, just need to place it in close range to a toe I guess ), and no noticeable lag on keyboard/mouse inputs. I'm fairly happy except for the mouse issue.

Yep, I have noticed the same thing too with the KVM's I use at work...

It is something with the lack of fully supporting differing voltages across the KVM...

High quality brand KVMs dont have that problem.

Ahh, shit thanks, not the answer I wanted to hear though.

Oh well, just have to live with it, not too terribly annoying.
