Feringi were first discovered by the Federation in TNG

It's funny how they are blatantly introducing contradiction into the entire Star Trek franchise eh?

I'm still waiting for Leonard Nimoy to make an appearance.  Perhaps the entire Enterprise will run into a time-space anomoly any find it'self with the Original Star Trek crew.

It's disappointing, but I'm humored to see Clint Howard making a return.

Don't bet against it.  Remember the DS9 episode where Worf et al appeared in the 'tribbles' space station?  Wouldn't put it past Berman.

So, maybe they're gonna get out of the "Ferengi not introduced until TNG" conundrum by not actually mentioning their race to the Enterprise crew?  Maybe that's been the answer all along. :oyvey:

In any large-scale universe, there will eventually be screwups. Deal.

Well, I think we were "dealing" with it by ragging on it. ;)

But even still, the ST universe seems to be quite well-documented through official channels, so it would appear that they're just making things hard on themselves.

It's idiocy like this that made me think that Enterprise was a really bad idea.

The simple fact is, the TOS world knows of very few significant alien races.  There are Klingons (minus their ridges... @_@...), there are Vulcans and Romulans, and that's about it.  Oh, yes, there are also tribbles.  No Cardassians, no Bajorans, no Ferengi, no Borg, none of the gamma quadrant races.  They were always going to have to introduce some early, or else have every *single* race that captain Archer meets (that isn't Klingon or Vulcan) get mysteriously wiped from existance by the time TOS arrives.  I bet aliens are desperate to get away from Enterprise, in the knowledge that any contact with them is going to guarantee their genocide.

I would have much preferred something a hundred years after Voyager, with the Federation having transwarp or quantum slipstream or similar technology (the latter actually seems less problematic than the former; IIRC transwarp has weird genetic corruption issues -- in addition to issues similar to the ones suffered by Voyager when it used the quantum slipstream drive).

Bah, I only got to see the last half hour of the show...

I want to kill the planet whenever I hear that fucking stupilishous opening theme song.

It's idiocy like this that made me think that Enterprise was a really bad idea.

Questions:

a) Given that all the shows have already violated each other's (and their own) continuity horribly, is Enterprise a big continuity reset button (which I'm assuming the temporal cold war is a plot device of)?

And b) As long as the show is consistent within the series, does it really matter?

This remains to be seen, however, I think the stories up until now were boring. They have no fire.

They shoudda made a series on "New Frontier" or that Excelsior series.

Well, it is Star Trek, you know.  If you want a series with some balls to the stories, go watch B5 or Farscape.  Enterprise seems much more character-based than story-based anyway, which is a nice change.

Actually, thinking about it, the inconsitancy about the Universal Translator is really starting to annoy me.  Sometimes it works perfectly (right down to matching lip movements), sometimes it's an Apple Newton, depending on plot requirements. What's the deal?

I would imagine the universal xlator attempts to map languages to the universal grammar, and then back.  If an alien race's language couldn't be mapped in such a way (unthinkable for humans, but possible for non-humans) then the xlator might just have a hissy fit and die.
