i got a second monitor hooked up to my machine again!

i'm now sitting here with vastly less desk space than i had a few hours ago, but sooooo much more screen real estate!

before: one 700nf (17", in case you can't figure it out) @1280x960@90hz.

now: 700nf, 1440x1080@85hz (i finally reinstalled powerstrip)... AND sun 20e20 (for the tards in the audience: 20" ) at 1152x864@85hz.

now, it's not perfect - the sun is nice and blue, which is really making the greenness of the 700nf stand out (though it comes and goes, tmorrow it might be perfect). and the 20" trinitron isn't flat horizontally, only vertically... and it doesn't do particularly good resolutions (it's maxed out now... i can't do better than 84hz@1280x960, so fuck it)... but hey :)

best part is that unlike the last time i did this, I CAN STILL GAME! serious sam 2 works fine :D

and i'm working on a deal for a lacie electron 19blue (first gen, i think)... then i'll be able to move the 700nf to secondary duty, and the 20e20 to... ah, i'll figure something out.

:D :D :D

btw, i've currently got the 20" dedicated to irc and winamp.

two monitors is indeed very sweet. I've become so used to two monitors at work now that when I use one monitor i feel like i'm trapped in a cubicle big enough to allow me to scratch my ass and nothing more.

that was supposed to be funny...

anway, you'll hate going back to single monitor setups. Dual monitors are great for doing artwork and other stuff like view porn on the internet with one monitor and watching a porn divx file on the other monitor.

Oh the kittens me has killed in my short life...

the deal for the lacie approaches :)

though i'll have to decide if i want both monitors running at approximately the same dot pitch... if i keep the 17" at 1280x960, then the 19" would have to be at 1440x1080... or i could step up to 1440x1080 and 1600x1200, but 1440 looks slightly small on a 17. hmm hmm hmm.

but enough counting of unhatched chicken tenders.

/me goes back to waiting, and hoping the seller is available tomorrow night.

OK, that makes me a tard, I suppose, but how do you figure it out?

Tards.com, also known as Google. :-)

The simple fact is, if Google can't find it, it does not exist.

:)

the guy is going to bring over the lacie tonight!! i should go to the bank so i have cash...

you know, once i get a gf4, i'll need a bigger desk. then i can use the v3 again, and get all three monitors hooked up at once :D

a big enough desk, and i could add another video card, and my crappy magnavox 17"...

it would be interesting: the good monitors in properly matching resolutions, and then the crappy ones (sun and magnavox) could also be matched, since 1152x864 on 18" viewable is the same size as 1024x768 on 16" viewable, which is the max the magnavox can do...

man would my mom be pissed off at me having four monitors on one machine though :D

Can Windows support 4 monitors with 2 different paired resolutions? I know that Matrox and Appian make 4way cards but those all have to be the same resolution to my knowledge.

Please pardon me for not knowing Windows' multi-monitor capabilities; I've never personally used them.

By the way pauli, the :D emoticon is designated by ;biggrin; except with colons and not semicolons.

Observe:

There's also ;evilgrin; or , which I like a great deal.

Just in case you didn't know.

i hope so! i'll find out when i try it :)

oh, and at least for matrox's latest 4way card (g450mms, i think), i don't believe they have to be the same res.

and i know about biggrin. :D is faster though :)

:/

i'm on the lacie now... and i've emailed the seller about returning it.

when i tried it out upstairs, it was fine. i get it down here, and i realize that at anything above 1280x960, it's blurry and has slight ghosting :( and it has worse bowing than my 700nf :( and there's some jitter :(

it takes a lot to make my unstable 700nf look like a better monitor. now, this thing is certainly bright... and the osd is great... but it can't fix bowing and ghosting and blurriness.

:(

i wish local shops stocked high end monitors! very frustrating that they don't.

Seek out stray magnets. They are the bane of a pleasant monitoring experience.

true, but this problem is more or less even across the screen. and it didn't affect any of the monitors that previously sat in the exact same spot.
