One good news. My vanilla Q 3 was on my TNT2 enabled Compaq and I though "What the hell, let me try some higher graphics settings one more time...", like the last *six* times before.
At every previous time, the Compaq choked under the high settings and gave me low performance.
This time was different. I don't know if it was the new det4 drivers or because it just felt like it, but I ran the game at 1094x798 with *all* settings set to as high as possible and I still had 30-50fps.
I never realized how *great* Q3A really looks. It's breathtaking.
Moreso, now I really want a GeForce 4 Ti 600, so I can run it at twice that resolution. ;)

B. My iMac runs Quake III just fine.
C. I played Quake III on my iMac for almost two years without a hitch, including new mods, TCs and weapons/characters/maps...
D. I don't bother my iMac with piddly shit like that anymore. She's not a spring chicken. Better to burn out the Compaq than the iMac.
Not that I have to tell you that quality-wise my iMac has been several orders of magnitude better, right?

The latest OpenGL drivers have been really improved and i'm finally maxing out my rage 128 card. I'm getting 75fps+ at 640x480. If i up the res i go down to 50fps which means my graphics card is fill rate limited. Not surprising seeing as the card is really old. I expect with even more improved OpenGL drivers on the horizion and with ATI finally shipping the 8500 to distributors which means we'll get FSAA, TruForm(if available in games, which some do have), and bunch of other stuff, game performance will not only get better but also the we get the visual features that have been missing for a long time on the mac.
Even then, pc's will still be a better platform for games.
So it looks like I might add the 8500 to my powermac and see evenbetter peformance.
