Subject says it all. Needs to be 350mhz or better. Must be able to run MacOSX. Does not need to have a hard drive, but MUST have video card and at least 256mb of ram. Willing to trade (not paying cash for it sorry, this is a favour for a friend who's son lost his Mac for his speech synthesis module last week in a accident) a Pentium 4 1.4ghz (socket 427 but NOT clock locked, as it is a Intel demo chip, it was given to me right by Intel), with an Intel D850GB motherboard, 256 MB of PC800 RDRAM, a GeForce 2 Pro video card (AGP), SoundBlaster Live! (the original Platnium that did not have the breakout box), a 32mb PCI SCSI RAID adapter and an Intel 10/100 PCI ethernet (Compaq branded). All you gotta do is supply the case/PSU and the drives...

E_M: I don't know jack about macs, but would an older one you could upgrade work? I may have a line on a g3 233, but I *think* a good portion of the g3's are upgradeable.

As far as trading goes, I'm not sure, haven't talked to the guy about it at all yet, but I'll ask more info if you want.

As for your problem, EM, I can't give you mine because it won't run X BUT, try your nearby school. Most schools in your district should have a Mac fast enough to handle it and may want to get rid of it.

If not, auction the pieces for your machine on ebay and buy a graphite off of Apple with the proceeds.

I know what you mean... I am so pissed that no companies were willing to donate old Mac's to this poor kid. I mean two local companies were selling their G3's for $300, and would not even dontate one.

E_M: Drop me a line, I have an idea where you can get a G3 3, here's a cut and paste of the email,

its a powermac g3 266mhz, 160mb ram, built-in zip drive, 4gb, and a 24x cdrom. It has Mac OS 8.1, and a bunch of software already loaded like adobe photoshop, etc. Ive got the mouse, keyboard, zip disk for it as well as a monitor adapter. Apparently they used to use a different connection for monitors so they used this adapter for 'PC' monitors. Problem is, the one I have is a viewsonic adapter so it will only work for viewsonic monitors, as far as I have checked anyway. I think new ones can be bought from around $5 or so. Lemme know if your interested.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Granted, I only hang out on the Apple parts (I have to get parts for my ][e adn ][gs somewhere :biggrin: ) and the PC sections could in fact be rife with theft, but in this case you'd be selling, and it's not like you would ship it until you had the cash. :) In this case it would probly work out ok. Of course, that would take some time. I know, you could sell me that rig for cheap and go buy one of those old macs. :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:
