Drivers..you guys MUST know this...

I downloaded the drivers for my Compaq Deskpro EN. It has an nVidia Riva TNT2 Pro. 32mb.
I found THREE drivers of varying dates, so I downloaded them all.

I ran them all within my Compaq/NVIDIA directory, where they replaced the existing NVIDIA files.

Then, I clicked on the setup icon each time.

Is that how I apply the drivers?

My Dell drivers have always been self installing.

I think so, if it prompted you to restart, It probably did update your drivers.

www.nvidia.com get the latest detonators, double click on file, and it'll install best drivers.

I can't deathe....no modem. *sniff*....

I'll have to download them on my Mac...which does have one.

And then ferry them with a ZIP.

Is it better for me to use Compaq drivers or Nvidia drivers?

Tell me, oh driver gods!

Well... Compaq may know more about the machine it's in if it's integrated, but nVidia's would quite likely work just fine (or better, we are talking about a Compaq here... ;) ). If it's not integrated definately use nVidia's.

It's not integrated ....nVIDIA TNT ULTRA 2.

I want to see if my graphics card is the problem.

I have Starfleet command(full game cd) and supposedly, I can modify the ships by adding new ship models to my directory and modifying a text file. It works for EVERYONE else...but it won't work for me. :(

I tried to run it in software but it won't let me and I"M DYING to use a galaxy or norway class ship in game.

I thought, maybe updating the drivers to detonators might help. :(

Yea, the stock drivers will work just fine for ya then. I dunno if it'll fix the starcraft issue you have, but they will work better than the compaq ones. The compaq drivers for my Mobility M1 in my laptop don't even offer OpenGL support.

I'd personally use the lastest WHQL-certified drivers from nVidia.  Particularly since I've found that the 3rd-party manufacturers of nvidia-based vid cards update their driver offerings sooooo verrrrry slooooowly.

F'r instance, I have an Acer Afterburner Deluxe (GF2 GTS); they finally released 2720 drivers last week.  Their previous update before that was last September.  Yecch.

Fuck.

I'm shit out of ideas.

Let me give you the low-down:

The game is Star Trek Starfleet Command and the premise is that you fly ships in detailed battles against other races.

The great thing is that the ships are nicely rendered and you can easily see the action at all times.

I found a site of players that have the ability to import mods of teh Next Generation into their games(I'm not a huge fan of The Original Series ships).  Ships like the Enterprise D, Defiant, Norway, Voyager and Runabouts are available.

So I download them, thinking my Compaq 933, with 128 mb of RAM and a Riva TNT 2 Ultra would be fine for the gig.

I have the actual game CD and I read the instructions THOROUGHLY...  Apparently, within the game's central directory, there exists a folder called assets that has two folders called specs and models.  Within the models folder, I'm supposed to upload the directories with the new ships. I did this. I checked the path carefully.

In spec, I have a text file called a spec file that gives the game the information about where to extract the models.

Therefore, all ship stats, appearances..>EVERYTHING< is in that file in what appears to be tab delimited text.

Well, I mod the text with excel, just like I'm supposed to(as per directions on the mod site) and my game crashes.

Then, I download their editor(which does the same thing) and it STILL crashes.

The admin of the site told me he's pretty sure it's my graphic card since the ships have worked for others.

I had updated the game with the patch thinking it might work. It didn't.

I tried checking all the paths and making sure the files were left perfectly. They were.

Then, in desperation, I downloaded all the new Compaq drivers. None worked(fucked up my machine actually).

Then, I downloaded the nvidia drivers. That hasn't worked either.

So then, I tried to run the game in software mode. It won't let me.

Fuck...

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK....

This is THE ULTIMATE customizable ship game.

Any ideas why I'd be fucked and noone else?

i wouldn't be at all surprised if you'd accidentally put some files in a nested folder slightly too deep.

I've checked...the folders aren't that complex.
