Anime
DBZ: Bardock -- The Father of Goku
  DBZ: The History of Trunks
DBZ: Movie 3 -- Tree of Might
  DBZ: Movie 5 -- Cooler's Revenge

Movies
  The Princess Bride

Soon to add 4 more discs of DBZ episodes that I'm buying from an associate. I like the series, at least in Japanese. I don't give a shit if you don't. I will not discuss it further.

Has anyone acquired anything new since the old thread was created months and months ago? Do any newer members care to add their lists to the archive?

The thread is open.

We've purchased at least a dozen DVDs since then, including 3 this week.  One day we shall catalog everything, just so we know what we have and what we've loaned out.  I'm sure we're closing in on 100 by now.

I've also reserved the upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Evil Dead special edition which are due within the next few weeks.

I also have the first season of Buffy (3 discs); the commentary by creator/writer Joss Whedon (sp?) is quite interesting.

DVD rules. It is my personal opinion (speculation only) that movies will all but stop coming out on VHS tape within 5 years. VHS is inferior in every aspect of the media, and DVD players are no longer expensive. You can get a basic model for under $100. Highend models are available for under $400.

The format has arrived and the future is here. Anyone who wants to stay in the past can stagnate and die with their old media.

I know I passed 250 a few months ago, but I haven't kept track lately.

I wouldn't mind if movies only came out on DVD, much as record albums don't need vinyl or cassettes, but we're still stuck with VHS as a recording medium for the masses.

I hope that set-top DVD recorders become the norm in the near future.  Although Tivo and its like could also be an option -- as long as it's easy enough to use for the people who have trouble with setting their VCR's time.

Anyone who has trouble setting a VCR clock is too stupid to live.

It's an absurdly simple procedure. If you can't do it out of hat, then READ THE FUCKING MANUAL !!

Sadly, it's all too common.  It seems to be most prevalent to older people (i.e. older than 40).  Some newer VCRs will pull time from a PBS station if you're lucky.

I'm going to paraphrase and slaughter a George Carlin observation/joke that seems appropriate here.

You know what's scary? Think about how dumb the average person is. Now realize that half the population is dumber.

4 acquisitions last night (all are DBZ episodes)
 Frieza: Transformation
 Frieza: Super Saiyan Goku
 Babidi: The Dark Prince Returns
 Babidi: Rivals

And I've come to the conclusion that I can no longer watch the dub of DBZ. I'm just going to have to acquire the entire series on DVD. No loss, except it'll be a hit to the pocketbook.

Last week I bought the 2-disc version of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

So far I've watched over an hour and a half of deleted scenes and outtakes.  I expect to get to the movie some time in the next week.
