I am finding linux is

Insidiously installing on my machines in the quiet of the night.

Odd.

It started with the server, now it has headed towards my laptop. There are rumors of my desktop being attacked next.

I was considering calling an exterminator, but it is kind of growing on me. I enjoy playing with it, windows holds no real challenge for me on a user basis anymore. But with linux I find myself finding new and neat software that intriques me. I really haven't enjoyed using a computer like this since my Amiga days. I mean, I enjoyed using the software on a computer, but this is a feeling of exploration, something new and well, quite frankly kind of exciting again.

If I ever actually force myself to build a new computer, I'll likely load some form of Linux on it; probably either Mandrake or SuSE (personal). But I'm lazy and don't feel like doing that anytime soon.

Isn't that a good thing? I mean, if you really want a new challenge, learn developing.  That gets you into all sorts of nooks and crannies that you never new existed.

Eh... I have to play with Linux and BSD at work, and so when I come home it's a nice change to have something that just DOES WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO instead of requiring all this fiddly tweaking and retweaking.

I remember when I got the BSD box to recognize our network shares.. there was this little twinge of "YES!  SUCCESS! WHOO HOO!" for a second and then I thought about it and realized that had this been a Windows box, it would have done so automatically.

My ideal OS would do everything automatically, including all my work, so that I wouldn't have to and could spend all my time posting to Internet bulletin boards and playing Homeworld.

JR:  Your ideal is a  system os that blows you;-)

Hence, your desire to love Bill...

No, I don't want my computer to be a substitute sex partner (if I did, I suppose I'd have to get a G4 tower with the "glory hole")  I'm quite satisfied with the human partner I have already.

I would LOVE to know "everything about Windows".

I'd leave exploration to other ventures. Unfortunately, even Windows is confusing to me sometimes.

Show me a man who understands women and I'll show you someone who's had a sex reassignment.
