Oh, and I'm thinking about updating the board to ikonboard version 3... it has tons of new features. I don't know if I could import the old messages though... would suck if I couldn't. :(

well yes I am. I just like asking questions which i know the answer to already. Makes me feel smart.

if you can't import old messages then i'd say no. There are to many great posts here that i don't want to see lost. Especially my stuff. Or at least if you could back up the old posts or create some sort of archive stuff.

Does ikonboard use flat files? if it does i don't see why it should make a difference unless they have made some changes to the database architecture. So i don't fortell any problems.

But back up anyway.

I just checked the iKonboard support forums. V3 will import old messages, but not smileys (it uses a totally different smiley format, I would have to re-enter each one manually) or avatars, which is the suck. Also I would have to install MySQL as the new version uses a database rather than a flat file structure. Apparently it's a bit slower, too.

So I'm not sure I'll be upgrading soon.

Not having smilies would be teh suck.
Not having avatars would be worse.
Not having old messages would be worse yet.

The worst of all would be losing postcounts and ranks. It'd be like starting over again, and that would suck worse than a fucking black hole.

They would just be different, and need to be changed.
I think they could be re-imported as well. (unless Jeremy meant "Not at all" in which case, yeah that would kind of suck.)
The messages should move over fine, along with all accounts and ranks. What the hell could the ikonboard people be thinking if you had to start all over every major release :)

Yeah, more posters would be cool, as I havent' seen but 1 new post all day that wasn't mine. :(
However, Not just any posters will do. They have to at least be of our calibre. ;) They must seethe teh funneh, and be tolerable. No more APK++s and whatnots.

I'm not really here to have our own battlefront, so I don't even care if newcomers knew about computers all that much so long as we accomplish the primary goal of OSY: Have Fun.

Reminds of a story about a geek who said that if he kept hacking away at computers he'd be rich one day and he'd get all the women he ever wanted. Why they hate SQL Server, Magus, is beyond me. It's a great, solid DB with great tools.

MySQL, imo, pales by comparison.
