So why would I consider upgrading?
Here's the thing: It looks nicer. I keep seeing people post screenshots in the BF, and I think: wow, my Windows looks so boring.
Is this silly? I think so. And yet...
What do you think?

Different strokes for different folks. All the boxen I work with are running Win2K SP2 and will not be upgraded beyond that except for service packs. My mom's Dell is also running 2K SP2.

my old top gun didn't have the nescessary drivers for 2000 so I couldn't use the hat switch. It was kind of pitifull as even win95 had the correct drivers built in for the thing. XP, like 95 supported it properly right out of the box.

Should you upgrade? You didn't really describe a need to do so, so I'd recommend just staying with what's working now. Are you talking about the computer that Pegasus3D is operating from?
XP has been solid as a rock for me in the month+ that I've been using it as the only OS on my main box. I've had a few app crashes, but the OS hasn't gone down. The only reset I've had is from one MS update a few weeks ago; other than that, it's been running 24/7.
Yes, it 'looks' more polished and ClearType rawks on my 19" monitor, but if these are your only reasons to upgrade, I'd say hold off until you have a pressing need to jump to XP. If your 2K machine is stable now, I don't see a reason to alter it, IMO.

Open MSN Messenger Program.
Preferences.
Remove checkmark from "Start program when windows starts up"
Viola, gone.
Right click on "my computer" Select properties.
Click on Settings in "Performance"
Select "Adjust for best performance" Gayified gone.
XP is good, 2K is good... But if you don't "know" you have to upgrade, then fuck it, don't. :)

That's 20-30 secconds of my life I will never get back.
Also it would be a pain to do that on every computer it was installed on.

So write a deployment script! Geesh!
Reasons I luv XP at home:
I think the UI is absolutely lovely.
I loikes dumping files to CD and hitting "Burn" rather than mucking about with Nero.
WMPXP's high-speed WMA rippin'. Also, the whole WMPXP thang - people think it's like WMP7 - it's not. It's hugely better.
Fast User Switching ("Does this app I'm writing still run if I'm a "Limited" user? (wap-wap) "Yep"
Background updates - no more mucking about with Windows Update checking for drivers
Indexing seems to actually work this time around (that is, really fast and with no hiccups whislt it indexes).
Boot speed and app launch speed are great.
Drivers for everything ever.

You'll probably have to edit the sysoc.inf file to uninstall MSN, but it's relatively painless. :)
