My win2000 box has crashed 4 times in 2 days.  That's more than it's crashed in the past 6 months.

IL-2 isn't getting along with me MX drivers :(

A friend of my bought a new OEM computer (not from a major brand) and it came with XP and a newer VIA chipset. Between those two the thing was completely unusable for games.

Also, my CPU caught on fire, and my other computer seems dead. I am stuck on the old K6 333 @ 375 right now. I never thought I would have to dig that thing out of the closet. It's like stepping in a time machine and going back to 1996.

heh! and at the BF you here glowing testimonies that pc's never ever fucking crash but macs always do. And vhen given examples of pc's crashing, people vith the same config come back and say no no no its all a lie. ass munchers!

Anyvay, i'm not trying to stir things up here. I think pcs and macs crash for many reasons that is out of our hands other then not using a computer at all.

Just vanted to point out that this is vhy you have not heard or seen me at the BF. Its is a pile of the stinkiest and foulest dog shit that i have ever come across.

Die BF DIE!

vhat? vhy are you looking at me?

I built meself my own AMD box last month and the damn thing just won't crash.  It. Hasn't. Crashed. Once.  Box stays on 24/7 because, well, I'm lazy and don't wanna wait for power up/down. ;)

What with reading about the people having problems with AMD CPUs and VIA chipsets, I'm quite satisfied that I haven't had one problem with it.

Oh, and I have a SB Live Value card, too.

People are too hard on VIA chips. Sure, back in the day they were ass, but they've improved quite a bit since then. Mine will not crash either, for instance. (I potentially have the "config of dooooom" a KT7A-RAID with XP and an SBLive Platinum IR, not to mention 6 WD hard drives and etc.)
Now, if you want to talk about shite mobo's like the one that came in that no-name OEM... well, heh.

I actually didn't have any problems relating to my via chipset. Unfortunately a massive plauge has befallen me that has caused all my hardware to die for no reason. It is a massive plauge of biblical proportions.

Hell Riso, what other options are there for sound nowadays? Don't say the Herc GTXP, I purchased one of those POS's last spring, it wouldn't work worth a shit, they released a nice product with horrible drivers, took them, what 6 months to make decent drivers for it? Now, the Santa Cruz appears to be a nice card, but I've had no experience with it.

Reason I upgraded to a CL Audigy from a Vortex2, mainly is, well, hell, it's the standard nowadays. I myself don't care for CL products, but this Audigy sounds nice, and works very well. I've only had 1 crash related issue to it, and that was my own fault, did something I shouldn't have in my bios.

It's a nice card that works well in Windows, but just not yet in linux. :(

I wish to god I could have had decent drivers for my Vortex2, It'd still be in my machine, but the minimal XP drivers didn't make me very happy.

The XP Vortex drivers support  A3D afaik.

You know why?

Because Aureal engineers work at MS and wrote them.

The Vortex drivers in XP kind of sucked. :( I had a good deal of noise, and unhappiness with em. :( I wish they had worked better....

And, a good chunk of the Aureal Engineers now work at Nvidia. Hopefully the NForce audio will kick ass when the drivers are all done.
