And so I am a Commander...

Magus

Mon Dec 10 22:40:53 2001

Inasmuch and forwithal as I have attained the rank of Commander through diligent post-whore and inane babbling, I should like at this time to thank those to whose example I'm indebted.

OW, AYB, and IG, captains and Priests of the Tao of the PostWhore, I salute you for guiding me to this point by your steady stream of posts.

Jeremy, thanks for providing this board; it always gives me a laugh.

Paul, thanks for providing many of the aforementioned laughs and my .sig.

Pizza and Madan, thanks for all the info you put in your posts; I've learned a good deal from both of you.

To all I haven't specifically named due to my crack addiction, thanks for being part of OSY.

One more to the table, eh?

Congratulations be rendered to thee.

Damn, Madan's at 998; looks like OSY will have yet another Captain pretty shortly.

Captains:
    AYB
    IG (myself)
    OW
    RQE (who doesn't post anymore)
    DuffMan
    Socrates

DrPizza's over 900 as well, perhaps over 950.

We need Reimer to add ranks above Admiral so that the board doesn't get top-heavy with them. So far we have no Admirals and AYB will almost certainly be the first.

DuffMan

Mon Dec 10 23:37:39 2001

I will most certainly be the first admiral.

Mon Dec 10 23:50:10 2001

Hmmm....

There's Grand Admiral and Rear Admiral...
OK, go ahead and have fun with that second title!

Tue Dec 11 00:54:57 2001

I will most certainly be the first admiral.

You say that, and yet AYB's roughly 1500-1600 ahead of you, and I'm more than 1000 ahead.

Well, due to the small number of people who frequent the place, I'm about the only "regular" poster you didn't mention. It's ok though, crack can be a bitch ;)

So, I don't count as a regular poster?

I'm hurt.

Seriously.

Tue Dec 11 03:35:46 2001

Wow, two new Commanders in one day. Congratulations, DeAthe.

And yet there are still only two people at 2000 posts or more, although a third is closing in fairly quickly.

DeAthe

Tue Dec 11 03:36:43 2001

/me Bows.

Actually I had my 300th post a few days ago, probably in one of my bitching threads. :)

Imitation Gruel

Tue Dec 11 03:38:10 2001

Obviously those two are AYB and myself, and the one closing in is OW.

And Madan is closing in on 1000; he'll likely be OSY's 7th Captain -- him or DrPizza, who's also in the 900's.

That's actually fairly frightening to think that you have actually typed in that amount of information.

I wonder if it would be possible to gather as a text file all the input you have done on the board? I wonder just how many raw KB's that would be?

Imitation Gruel

Tue Dec 11 03:52:06 2001

Heh. You want a really big file?

Do that for PeterB's Ars posts. He's over 19,000 and a huge portion of those have been half-pagers. But not as many of those since he started as Battlefront and NT/2K Mojo mod.

A good number of my posts here have been nothing but things like the number that the post was, or a phrase like 'postcount ++ !!'. Or one of the catchphrases I invented.

In otherwords, chaff.

An unintentional informational miscarriage. I did say "about" though

You'd think that would be frightening but whats scarier is that very little of our posts is actual useful information and mostly just inane ramblings of mad men who lead a geek lifestyle which means masturbating to new motherboard specs from ASUS or Intel.

OSYfileSize++;
postCount++;
OscarWilde

Wed Dec 12 17:41:02 2001

fuck n a. I don't think any ammount of postcount++ would be sufficent for me to reach 3000 posts soon enough.

holy crap!

and then i look at AYB and realise that it is indeed a possible dream. That indeed one day i shall indeed be amongst the same ranks as AYB and soon after IG.

However in the mean time i shall be content that the rest of you piddly folks beneath me are beneath me.

I'm just curious to see who's going to last till the very end of OSY. I don't think OSY will last very long.

Ironical that I think Apple and OSY are similar. Small 'market share', people that are very passionate about sillyness and going against the grain.

ha ha ha! jeremy started the Apple of OSY.

And just like Apple maybe doomed so shall OSY follow in its path.

I knew all along that Jeremy idealised Steve Jobs. Probably has a poster of Steve Jobs naked which he has candles and burning incense around the room to add to the auro of holiness that jeremy feels from SJ.

muahahahaha!!!!

you have been found out my canadian friend!

muahahahaha!!!

i shall spread the word.

Extremely disturbing thought.

What!

OSY must last forever, just like teh poopy friends of OSY!

AYB's verdict on this is FINAL!

Why?

I wonder about Apple being doomed, though.  I know I predicted it and made silly posters of Apple Deathlight Vigil t-shirts and whatnot, but it seems to me that the company is clinging on to its 2.72%, seemingly forever.

My feelings towards Steve Jobs are as mysterious as Steve himself.  On one hand, he helped bring both the Apple II and the Mac to the world, and while neither were the first product of their kind, they definitely had real influence on the market.

On the other hand, Steve Jobs has always behaved like an asshole, and to be honest, he didn't DO anything of consequence for either projects.  Both were engineered and designed by others, and Jobs merely took credit for them.

On a third hand, you have to admire someone with no skills and no qualifications who has nonetheless made himself insanely rich and has affected the industry to a huge degree.

I don't think I'd like to be Steve Jobs-- I don't want to be an asshole with a reality distortion field.  But it would be nice to have his money...

Obviously I hit the 'serious switch' in this thread.

Yeah, i'm not a big fan of Steve Jobs my self. I give credit to Wozniack and to Jef Raskin if anybody.

Steve Jobs gift is his charisma and his business skills. He isn't a marketing wizard, oh no hell not, but i've read he's pretty tough at getting the best prices. The irony tragedy being that we don't see this aggressive price on the consumer side.

Meh, i give Apple till the end of next year to set their trend from a spiral downwards or a sudden growth spurt. The main thing is that Apple will only get there in leaps and bounds and not slowly because to slow means the market can counter the growth to stop Apple from gaining any more market share.

As to OSY lasting a long time. I have my reasons. I see things that many people don't. I see into the future but my vision of it is not as clear but enough to get some vauge ideas of what is to be and what is not to be. In the future I see OSY as we see the Roman monuments now. Ruins that reflect a once mighty society.

"We maybe insignificant in numbers but we are significant in silliness. Infact one might say, the only monopoly we have is on silliness."
