What does WinMe actually do that is worthy of such acrimony?

It does its best to drag people into the early 1990s by making it harder for them to use real-mode DOS drivers and software.

He's said that before.

Quite a number of times IIRC.

Why's that shocking? WinME is a POS, might as well come out and say it.

The Win9x kernel is elephant spooge. With XP Home available, I wouldn't put 9x on someone's box unless they could provide documented proof of incompatibility, and then I'd be questioning the value of the incompatible app.

Hmph.

I started a whole damn thread about how shit Windows ME was (back when it launched, when it was relevent). It IS shite.

I think it made Easy Rhino leave. :(

Hey, yeah, I'd wondered what happened to him. Was he on the WinME team?

On comp.sys.mac.advocacy, I used to call Win ME the Moron Edition(tm)... clearly a useless product in the light of 98SE (if you absolutely had to run a 9x based product) and 2k.

Of course, that's what we run at work...

Ah, the plight of the corporation. Being forced to spend money on things that it knows nothing about whilst the employees who do look on in shame. That's why I'm in charge of all computer purchases here

meh i knew windows 9x sucked since day one. I hated windows 3, windows 95, 98, 98SE. Haven't played with ME to much but enough to know its crap.
I like windows NT but it isn't a consumer OS. Windows 2000 is a great OS.
I'm still curious to how XP matches up to 2K. The main thing is, DO I REALLY NEED IT?

I'd like to go to XP, but teh tuition comes first, I fear...

I honestly can't see a reason to upgrade to XP on my own computer.  I probably will at some point, but it just doesn't seem like a must-have upgrade over 2000, which I'm pretty happy with already.

I was being sarcastic.

IMO WinMe doesn't do anything to deserve the scorn heaped upon it.  Whilst I wouldn't care to run a 9x-kernel OS at all, if I had to, I would prefer to run WinMe.

Its great virtue is that it makes it harder for manufacturers to get away with criminally poor driver support.

But this upsets a lot of idiots.

Where have you been?  He's ragged on the Luna interface from around Day One.
