The truth about AYB!

OscarWilde

Wed Dec 5 05:53:19 2001

I take exception to a few key aspects of AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's announcements. In the rest of this letter, I will use history and science (in the Hegelian sense) to prove that a number of serious questions need to be asked -- and answered -- before we give AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs carte blanche to reduce human beings to the status of domestic animals. Let us postulate that we ignore him at our own peril. In that case, we are observing the change in our society's philosophy and values from freedom and justice to corruption, decay, cynicism, and injustice. All of these "values" are artistically incorporated in one person: AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs. I have a dream that my children will be able to live in a world filled with open spaces and beautiful wilderness -- not in a dark, batty world run by yawping-to-the-core, dim-witted heavy metal fans.

Think of AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's treatises as being the sum of two components: a ridiculous component that consists of AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's desire to utilize legal, above-ground organizing in combination with illegal, underground tactics to threaten national security and an incoherent component that consists of everything else. We are concerned primarily with the former. Please remember that I want my life to count. I want to be part of something significant and lasting. I want to provide people the wherewithal to give the needy a helping hand, as opposed to an elbow in the face.

Imagine people everywhere embracing AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's claim that mediocrity and normalcy are ideal virtues. The idea defies the imagination. It may seem senseless to say that evidence exists to suggest that AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's smear tactics will cause more harm than good. Nevertheless, the position can be defended.

Developing a policy of inclusion will not be easy, because if AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs had even a shred of intellectual integrity, he'd admit that he really shouldn't reduce history to an overdetermined, wireframe sketch of what are, in reality, complex, dynamic events. That's just common sense. Of course, the people who appreciate his credos are those who eagerly root up common sense, prominently hold it out, and decry it as poison with astonishing alacrity. AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs, does the word "preterdiplomatically" mean anything to you? His hypocrisy is transparent. Even the least discerning among us can see right through it.

Given his current mind-set, there is a proper place in life for hatred. Hatred of that which is wrong is a powerful and valuable tool. But when AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs perverts hatred in order to fill our children's minds with effete and debasing superstitions, it becomes clear that at no time in the past did spiteful mountebanks shamble through the streets of cities, demanding rights they imagine some supernatural power has bestowed upon them. Think about how easy it's become for demonic, satanic serpents to spawn delusions of larrikinism's resplendence. There is a format AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs should follow for his next literary endeavor. It involves a topic sentence and supporting facts. Many people respond to his deluded subliminal psywar campaigns in the same way that they respond to television dramas. They watch them; they talk about them; but they feel no overwhelming compulsion to do anything about them. That's why I insist we give peace a chance.

We must challenge AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs to defend his conclusions or else to change them. As mentioned above, however, that is not enough. It is necessary to do more. It is necessary to exemplify the principles of honor, duty, loyalty, and courage. He just keeps on saying, "I don't give a [expletive deleted] about you. I just want to revive an arcadian past that never existed." I and AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs part company when it comes to the issue of mercantalism. He feels that he is a paragon of morality and wisdom, while I suspect that ancient Greek dramatists discerned a peculiar virtue in being tragic. AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs would do well to realize that they never discerned any virtue in being audacious.

His catch-phrases are a blatantly obvious and cleverly orchestrated script, carefully concocted to wage a clandestine guerilla war against many basic human rights. Likewise, if I seem a bit pompous, it's only because I'm trying to communicate with him on his own level. An armed revolt against AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs is morally justified. However, I think that it is not yet strategically justified. His irresponsible philippics convince me of only one thing: that there's no point in arguing with him. Now, I could go off on that point alone, but if you read between the lines of his refrains, you'll surely find that inasmuch as I disagree with his accusations and find his ad hominem attacks offensive, I am happy to meet his speech with more speech and, if necessary, continue this discussion until the truth shines.

I frequently talk about how AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs is unable to deal with a world populated by human beings. I would drop the subject, except that when I say that he has studiously avoided being contaminated by the facts, this does not, I repeat, does not mean that people are pawns to be used and manipulated. This is a common fallacy held by inimical ignorant-types. He somehow manages to get away with spreading lies (a book of his writings would be a good addition to the Bible), distortions (the only way to expand one's mind is with drugs -- or maybe even chocolate -- and misplaced idealism (all any child needs is a big dose of television every day). However, when I try to respond in kind, I get censored faster than you can say "nondeterministic".

It's really not bloody-mindedness that compels me to help people see AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's snooty, uncontrollable theories for what they are. It's my sense of responsibility to you, the reader. It's fine to realize that AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's assistants get so hypnotized by his simplistic "good guys and bad guys" approach to history that they do not hear what he is really saying, but it's more important to know that his perorations are rife with contradictions and difficulties; they're completely devious, meet no objective criteria, and are unsuited for a supposedly educated population. And as if that weren't enough, someone has to be willing to reveal the constant tension between centripetal and centrifugal forces of dialogized heteroglossia resulting from his belief systems. Even if it's not polite to do so. Even if it hurts a lot of people's feelings. Even if everyone else is pretending that every featherless biped, regardless of intelligence, personal achievement, moral character, sense of responsibility, or sanity, should be given the power to undermine everyone's capacity to see, or change, the world as a whole. I will not say what is right and what is wrong when it comes to AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's prognoses. But I will say one thing: AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs's eccentricity is surpassed only by his vanity. And his vanity is surpassed only by his empty theorizing. (Remember his theory that we should all bear the brunt of his actions?) More often than not, AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs has -- not once, but several times -- been able to make all of us pay for his boondoggles without anyone stopping him. How long can that go on? As long as his violent, caustic memoranda are kept on life support. That's why we have to pull the plug on them and get my message about AllYourBasesAreBelongToUs out to the world.

His habitués say that nothing would help society more than for them to defy the law of the land. Sorry, I don't buy that. Already, some loquacious firebrands have begun to introduce more restrictions on our already dwindling freedoms, and with terrifying and tragic results. What scare tactics will follow from their camp is anyone's guess. Now that you've heard what I've had to say, I want you to think about it. And I want you to join me and stick to the facts and offer only those arguments that can be supported by those facts.

Whoa! some of the stuff about OSY is pretty damn close! I bolded some of the funnier truthts'. :cheesy:

I have a few points of contention with OSY. To get right down to it, OSY's treatises are not pedantic treatises expressing theories or extravaganzas dealing in fables or fancies. They are substantial, sober outpourings from the very soul of emotionalism. If you look back over some of my older letters, you'll see that I predicted that OSY would quash other people's opinions. And, as I predicted, it did. But you know, that was not a difficult prediction to make. Anyone who has bothered to learn even a little about OSY could have made the same prediction.

OSY's offhand remarks are simply the result of vested interests striking back at a group whose actions in support of religious freedom, social reform, and government accountability have cut through those vested interests. Even more remarkable, OSY has, at times, called me "barbaric" or "diabolic". Such contemptuous name-calling has passed far beyond the stage of being infantile but harmless. It has the capacity to destroy everything beautiful and good. If an attempt to discourage us from expressing our personal attacks in whatever way we damn well please isn't intellectually stultified, it certainly is filthy. OSY has never tried to stop repressive spoiled brats who call evil good and good evil. In fact, quite the opposite is true: OSY encourages that sort of behavior.

OSY's biases are part of a larger attack on the very notion of meritocracy and quality. Think about it, and I'm sure you'll agree with me. No matter how close it's come to making me go crazy, it won't be satisfied until it finds a way to make our lives a living hell. When you tell OSY's deputies that it's considerations of this sort that make it worth our while to learn about the cruel things OSY is up to, they begin to get fidgety, and their eyes begin to wander. They really don't care. They have no interest in hearing that it needs some serious professional help. If you doubt this, just ask around.

My next point of order is that OSY is not only immoral, but amoral. I am concerned that OSY's vague and overly broad definition of "antianthropomorphism" will cause chauvinistic dweebs (also known as OSY's factotums) to turn our country into a bookish cesspool overrun with scum, disease, and crime one day. I've said that before and I've said it often, but perhaps I haven't been concrete enough or specific enough, so now I'll try to remedy those shortcomings. I'll try to be a lot more specific and concrete when I explain that OSY's claim that its musings won't be used for political retribution is factually unsupported and politically motivated. OSY claims that no one is smart enough to see through its transparent lies. I, however, believe that that's a load of crud. Yes, we cannot allow jaded urban guerrillas to pass unnoticed, but the baneful nature of its imprecations is not just a rumor. It is a fact to which I can testify.

Do you ever get the feeling that OSY is a very slovenly little organization? Well, you should, because many people respond to OSY's fastidious morals in much the same way that they respond to television dramas. They watch them; they talk about them; but they feel no overwhelming compulsion to do anything about them. That's why I insist we appeal not to the contented and satisfied, but embrace those tormented by suffering, those without peace, the unhappy and the discontented. OSY's left hand doesn't know what its right hand is doing. That's the current situation, and if you have any doubt about the reality of it, then you haven't been paying close enough attention to what's been happening in the world. For the sake of concreteness: I recently informed OSY that its janissaries cause (or at least contribute to) a variety of social ills. OSY said it'd "look further into the matter." Well, not too much further; after all, most of you reading this letter have your hearts in the right place. Now follow your hearts with actions. If OSY has any children, I recommend that it teach them about love, trust, cooperation, community, reason, negotiation, and compromise rather than violence, paranoia, and fear.

OSY's perspective is that university professors must conform their theses and conclusions to its oppressive, ghastly prejudices if they want to publish papers and advance their careers. My perspective, in contrast, is that I have a tendency to report the more sensational things that OSY is up to, the more shocking things, things like how it wants to supplant one form of injustice with another. And I realize the difficulty that the average person has in coming to grips with that, but it is the picture of the insane person on the street, babbling to a tree, a wall, or a cloud, which cannot and does not respond to its cajoleries. More to the point, if OSY would abandon its name-calling and false dichotomies, it would be much easier for me to shatter the illusion that OSY should assuage the hungers of its apparatchiks with servings of fresh scapegoats because "it's the right thing to do". I want to keep this brief: OSY says that arriving at a true state of comprehension is too difficult and/or time-consuming. That's a stupid thing to say. It's like saying that it knows 100% of everything 100% of the time.

It may seem to many people, maybe even the majority, that OSY is like a stray pigeon. Pigeons are too self-absorbed to care about anyone else. They poo on people they don't like; they poo on people they don't even know. The only real difference between OSY and a pigeon is that OSY intends to detach individuals from traditional sources of strength and identity -- family, class, private associations. That's why it wants to call for ritualistic invocations of needlessly formal rules, even though, for most people, this desire is neither necessary nor instinctive. I'll say that again, because I want it to sink in: The fatuitous nature of its tirades distracts us from the real lessons we could learn from a rigorous critique of OSY's ventures. The gloss that OSY's loyalists put on OSY's ploys unfortunately does little to build an inclusive, nondiscriminatory movement for social and political change. Couldn't you figure that out for yourself, OSY? An inner voice tells me that OSY claims that everyone and everything discriminates against it -- including the writing on the bathroom stalls. Predictably, it cites no hard data for that claim. This is because no such data exist. OSY is not above the law. But it doesn't stop there.

Although it's easy to sit in the press box and criticize, this is a proscribed thought vs. free inquiry issue, an anti-democracy vs. democracy issue, and yes, a police state vs. free society issue. Now, I could go off on that point alone, but we should acknowledge that its new definition of "counterrevolutionist" is honestly in disagreement with its sinful crusades. (Goodness knows, our elected officials aren't going to.) If we don't soon tell OSY to stop what it's doing, it will proceed with its apolaustic, intemperate memoranda, considerably emboldened by our lack of resistance. We will have tacitly given OSY our permission to do so. It's my hunch that if you were to tell OSY that when one looks at this morally crippled parade of irritating vagrants, one instantly thinks of the word "microcinematographic", it'd just pull its security blanket a little tighter around itself and refuse to come out and deal with the real world.

OSY uses the very intellectual tools it criticizes, namely consequentialist arguments rather than arguments about truth or falsity. While we do nothing, those who confiscate other people's rightful earnings are gloating and smirking. And they will keep on gloating and smirking until we lead us all toward a better, brighter future.

Even by OSY's own account, an armed revolt against it is morally justified. However, I insist that it is not yet strategically justified. Notice the drugged-out tendency of OSY's "compromises". OSY's emissaries are unified under a common goal. That goal is to force us to do things or take stands against our will. It will be objected, to be sure, that OSY doesn't honestly want to use scapegoating as a foil to draw anger away from more accurate targets. At first glance, this may seem to be true, but when you think about it further, you'll truly conclude that we must remove our chains and move towards the light. (In case you didn't understand that analogy, the chains symbolize OSY's neo-closed-minded, feral wisecracks, and the light represents the goal of getting all of us to raise meddlesome hellions out of their cultural misery and lead them to the national community as a valuable, united factor.) Finally, whatever your thoughts or feelings about OSY are, I urge you to help me ring the bells of truth.
