Been gone for a reason.

My friends are bitching because they haven't seen me in a week.

My folks are jealous of my computer...

My coworkers are starting to think I'm a freak because it's all I talk about.

BGII.......roocks.
Period.

I was *really* angry at the game when I couldn't beat a level(three parts specifically, were unbeatable) Since then, I've beaten one part and I'm about to cheat my way around another and I'm hooked again.

Minsc...I love minsc.
And me and jaheira are getting hot and heavy....

Hmm....it's just a game...just a game.....

uh oh.

I don't have this game. Hell, I don't have a computer capable of playing it.

But I'm not concerned with that. One of my major questions is who will be OSY's 6th Captain.

Socrates has 899 posts.
You have 870, Madan.
And DrPizza has 869.

I believe it will be one of you three.

Also I plan to pass OW at some point to move into 2nd place on the Top Posters list. AYB's WAY ahead, with nearly 2300. He'll almost certainly be the first Admiral.

Post count = 1630

Nnnnh..did I say that aloud?

Anyways, on a 10k baud connection(WTF is up wi my AOHELL?) I can't post a lot but I WILL get to Captain eventually.

BTW, if you have a machine wi at least 32 mb of RAM, 4 mb of vid mem and a 350 or more as a proc..you can run this game..

That person shall be me.

Considering AYB has more than twice your post count, I find your chances to be remote.

Hell, I'm ahead of you by 600+ as well, and I post pretty rapidly when I choose to.

I have no real need of my own computer right now because there are computers in my dorm's computer lab that I can use 24/7 gratis.

Mon Oct 22 19:52:01 2001

CHIT!

D'Arnise is the part I coudn't beat. I kinda, uh, didn't know what mission to take at the Copper Coronet, so I accepted Nalia's offer before I even searched the docks OR bridge or ANYTHING else. I basically had seen the promenade, slums and wall and then *bang* went directly to D'Arnise. Wi 8 level characters no less.

The first part I couldn't beat was the Steel Golem/Iron Golems guarding the frost reaver/hammer o' giant kin.

Sanctuary solved that.

The second part was Glacius. He was kicking my arse MOST thouroughly. Literally, wiping out my entire group until I finally figured out that I should charm him wi my character's ring of influence.

The last and most frustrating part was Torgal.

I tried offensive spells but Minsc, Jaheira and I died to quickly.

I tried defensive spells but the fight would last too long.

I tried summonging several Earth Elementals, animals and monsters. They barely put a dent in him.

I left a message on the forum in a BGII page and they all told me to web him, which didn't work.

So I basically got the cheat and offed him that way. They told me D'Arnise wasn't a subquest that was meant for a player coming *right* out of the dungeon so I did what I had to do.

Then I came back, examined the slums. Almost done examing that. Went to the bridge and jumped the tanner(I was right) and solved the "flayer murders" and now I'm:

A. Searching for a subquest under the Red Flagon Inn.

B. Going to finish searching for the Slums(I don't know about that planar sphere...haven't tried that...sounds hard)...
There are a lot of chests that I didn't pick. Have to stop the slavers.

C. Have to search the bridge district more thouroughly.

D. Have to go to the docks. Subquest for Xzar. Turn Yoshimo over to the theives and use the 15k I paid to get help in retrieving Imoen.

E. I also need to examine the Umar hills AND to examine Tradeskeep.

F. I have a meeting for the graveyard with a woman(sounds kinky)...

Any suggestions on which would be the easiest to do first?

The game is full of twists and turns. Great plot. Great engine. Great game.

Just frustrating 'cause I suck. :(

Well Mad!

D'Arnise is kind of a biyatch.

Hint on the Golems:

Kill them off one by one before trying for the treasure in the room.  If you attack one of them, the others will remain "asleep".

The Iron golem is venerable only to very majical weapons (that's the big silver dude in the middle)

The stone golems require pointy weapons (like arrows, spears, anything of the "peircing" type)

Clay golems require "bludgeoning"weapons like sling-stones, maces, flails, and warhammers.

any other weapon will not harm the corresponding golems.  they are immune to most any magic.

The Golems aren't close to the worst.  The yaun-ti mage in the library and the Umber-hulks  are some of the worst encounters in the game.

The first quest you should do is to free the slaves at the Copper kettle.  Go up to the one guy at the bar (not the fat guy, the skinny and evil talking guy) and ask about the best method of despensing coin.  He will tell you that you can now enter the back rooms where barbarian slaves are being held (there is also a prostitution ring back there and you can get some nookie if Jaheria doesn't object.)

When you are in the back rooms, you will enter a door at the end of the hall, enter there and it should be obvious what goes on next.

After you are done, there is another part of this quest that starts by going down a secret passageway in the same hallway that you entered.  this is a kind of fun mission, but save before you start and save often.

LMK how it goes :)

The problem with Galacias is that he is well equipt and swallows several potions of speed during the encounter.

He has some kickass platemail so you may want to try a dispell magic on him halfway throught the encounter to slow him down.

Mon Oct 22 20:54:35 2001

hunh.

I had NO problems wi the Yuan Ti Mage. Ripped him a new one with no threat.

The Umberhulks aren't a problem if you use the Dog Stew OR if you lure one into the adjacent room and deal with them in that way.

Torgal was bad.

Is the plotline you gave me hard? Is it true D'Arnise is one of the strongest fights?

Turn Yoshimo over to the theives and use the 15k I paid to get help in retrieving Imoen.

I approve, even though I've never done this quest. Especially since you will have reason not to like Yoshimo later.  But don't be so hasty to use the money to rescue Imoen.  Buy l33t stuff from various shops and Adventure Mart in the Promenade.  Go to the back to see some entertaining pictures :cheesy:

Good equipment is essential.  SOme things require +2 or even +3 weapons to kill, and having a good armor class is essential to your ability to survive harsh battles, and outlast spell effects from these damn wizards that have everything on a contengency on a stick!

(as a DM I call this cheating!)

I just rushed him.

Six ppl coming at him with Flail of Ages, Sword of Arcobane and others was too much.

I'd waste him and then deal with the Troll and Ice troll.

Yeah, I covet a lot of EQ but Ribald really doesn't have all that much good stuff.

Like the necklaces, why keep them? No reason. No powers.

I WOULD like to get a studded leather of darkness +4 for my theif and get platemail +2 for Minc/ Jaheira.

I've got about 5k extra. I'll see if I can build up some more.

Still, don't blow it for me. That Yoshimo thing was a spoile3r!

There is no real secret to Torgal.  He's just tough.  Just plow into him with your best fighters, use healing and stuff.

You could try backing off and using tangle from Jaheria in attempt to trap a few trolls so you don't have to deal with all three at one time.

They gave me trouble with a 19th level Fighter wielding dual Longswords, so it's not just you.  It's just one of those battles that demand keeping your fighters intact and upfront fighting while shotting arrows and spells from the back.

AllYorBaseRBelong2Us

So it's just you, Jaheria, and Minsk? (and Boo of course)

No wonder you are getting flamed.

You need at least two good front line fighters.  Minsc certianly qualifies.  There are opportunities to pick up some more in the Copper Coronet, like a Dwarf who's at *least* as good as Minsc.  But he is chaotic evil just like Imitation Gruel (except that he doesn't change his Signature so often)  but is excellent.

Also, there is another strong fighter available in that Temple district mission.  Just don't agree to release him from service.

I'm actually a bit dissapointed in the NPC's in BGII, there should have been double the amount.  Spellcasters are in too much of a short supply also.

That's why I'm making my whole group myself.

Imitation Gruel

Mon Oct 22 23:16:41 2001

chaotic evil just like Imitation Gruel

I like the way that sounds -- Chaotic Evil

Sounds like a good name for a villain in a story; unfortunately I'm not writing any stories where it could be reasonably used.

AllYorBaseRBelong2Us

Mon Oct 22 23:42:47 2001

Chaotic Evil will be recognized instantly as a Dungeons and Dragons paradigm of alignment, which is a general outlook on the world and characterises one based on respect for good, and respect for the law.

THere are nine alignments:

Lawfull Good, Nuetral Good, Chaotic Good.
Lawfull Nuetral, True Nuetral, Chaotic Nuetral.
Lawfull Evil, Nuetral Evil, Chaotic Evil.

Chaotic evil are the type that wreak wanton destruction for wanton destructions sake.  Generally it is the providence on low intellegent Orcs, Goblins, and Trolls (much like the Battlefront kind), and the occasional Mad Genius.

No, no, no. I had Aerie and Nalia and Yoshimo as well.

But, yes, I was still getting flamed.

You need at least two good front line fighters.  Minsc certianly qualifies.  There are opportunities to pick up some more in the Copper Coronet, like a Dwarf who's at *least* as good as Minsc.

Korgan. Yes. I haven't recruited him yet.

Aerie, Nalia and Xzar are "short supply"?

Add Jaheira as a druid and you have TOO many spellcasters imo.

I would liked to have seen some more tank-like fighters.

Especially, since my char is a thief.

BTW, I tried the Copper Coronet/slavers.

It was hard at the end with the mages and Yuan Ti.

I almost died. Almost as hard as the troll!

Plus, I can't find the two handed sword. Stuck on the puzzle. I have the staff and I got to the four pipes but what do I do then?

Minsc NEEDS that sword. Wielding the flail makes me nervous because it attracts Rakshasas.

I went to the docks and talked with the theives guild. I got trashed by this woman, in the slums, at night...don't know her name.

Anyways, I'm sorry I ever paid them the 15k(paid them before you told me not to).

Now, I blew all this cash and all they want to offer me is my own guild.

I want help, not a contract to do their dirty work!

There's only two good spellcasters at this point for mage, Arie (who is lacking in HP, but has a *lot* of speels being both mage and priest) and Edwin (who is a snobbish toad, but the best mage overal).  I've never picked up Xzar, in fact he's not on any list of NPC's that can join your party that I see.

I would not just like a sufficient number of characters you can pick up just to fill spots.  Rather, I'd like to see several more options, and at least one char of each kit.

What does wielding 2 swords do? Do you hit more often?

You get one extra attack per round with your off-hand weapon.

I would only do it if you have at least two slots in 2 weapon fighting *and* if the character has at least a strength of 18+ *and* has a sufficient armor class without a shield.  Also, a good secondary weapon would be of much use.

My Level 19 fighter (soon to be 20) has 4.5 attacks per round with 2 weapons.  He has 3.5 with only one.

His strength is 18/93 (for a +2 to hit, +3 to damage IIRC)

The problem with weilding two weapons is that you can take a penalty in your ability to hit if you don't have at least two slots dedicated to it, so any advantage would be lost in hitting less often.

Plus, I can't find the two handed sword. Stuck on the puzzle. I have the staff and I got to the four pipes but what do I do then?

Yuo need the ring, blood, and hand to get the sword.

The ring is in the wall.  Just strait ahead from where you entered
The blood is the blood you get when you kill that one man's Carrion Crawler.
The hand is in the sewer grate in the first room on the bottom of the screen from where you entered.

Say.  How'd you like that one trap that turned you into stone? :)

When you have all these peices, go into the room with the pipes and hit the pipes in this order fron the top of the screen:

pipe 3
pipe 1
pipe 2
pipe 4

voila! instant sword (this sword is a definate whoot!)

Also, go ahead and get that guild.  Every main character has a "stronghold" quest depending on his class.

For fighters it is the D'Arnise Hold.
For Mages it is the Planar Sphere.
For thieves, the Guild.

You will apparently get some start up money.  Sounds exciting.  OW has always wanted his own guild of Thieves :)

Go do some other quests for more gold and equipment before setting out to the next phase where you go to find Emoen.

What's a "good" AC?
AllYorBaseRBelong2Us

Tue Oct 23 21:11:16 2001

10 is a starting normal AC with no modifiers for Class or Dexterity.  The lower the better.

Armor Class and THAC0 are part of the "to hit" formula in the D20 D&D rule system they implemented in this game.

If a ctaracters Thaco + His die roll on a 20sided dice >= targers AC, then a hit has occured and damage is determines.

There are a lot of modifiers for this.

Essentially, you want to get as close to the best AC as possible, in this case it's -10.

A "good" AC in this game, I find, is at least -2

For a front line fighter, I'd say -2 is the bare minimum before you start getting hit to frequently

AllYorBaseRBelong2Us

Wed Oct 24 20:36:39 2001

Oh, the barkeep at the Copper Coronet has a good longsword.  The sword of Roses, it's really nice although a bit spendy.

It's a +3 weapon and is worth the $$

I have problems as the primary weapon of 3 of my characters is Longsword.  While there are quite a few good longswords in this game and at least three really nice 2-hand swords, there is at this point a shortage of longswords that have a +3 to hit modifier (some powerfull monsters require magical weapons of this magnitude in order to hit, or else the "weapon is innefective"

Madan

Wed Oct 24 21:06:45 2001

Uhm, thanks for the explanation but I've PLAYED AD&D before and I know what THACO and AC are.

I just was wondering what you thought a good AC was.

I've got Minsc's AC down to -2.
I've got Jaheira's down to -8.
Mine is 5 but with the studded leathers of darkness, I should have it down to 0 soon.

Then again, my char has 20 charisma. Booyah. Yes, I may not be particularly heroic but DAMN do I look good!

How the hell did you get Jeheria that low????????

Anyway, I'm not sure thieves can use shields, so invest a point in One-handed fighting.

BTW, did you get the big sword?

Madan

Thu Oct 25 20:16:00 2001

Jaheira's got Full Plate, which reduces her natch AC to about a 1.

She's also got a shield(+4-large), bonuses from her dexterity AND a ring of protection.

I have a problem.

I made the deal wi the Shadow T's before I took your advice and gave them the 15 k coin.

Now, Aran(shadowmaster) is jerking me around, sending me on evil quests when my alignment is NG! Worse, I'm afraid I'll lose members of my team over it!

How is a good char. supposed to get his guild when they force you to steal for it????

Now, I'm infiltrating a guild for Renal Bloodscalp and undertaking another mission to the Red Flagon Inn, in order to join the other thieve's guild that is threatening the shadows.

All this, after Nalia split on my team because I took her to her dad's funeral....but she never noticed it!

Moreso, I had an appointment with Mistress Valen(I'm assuming the other evil guild leader) and since I sided wi the the shadows, she now attacks me on sight and she is HARD!

I can't step out at night, wiout getting jumped by her!

I need an easy mission. I've got the 2handed sw and the sw of roses but I need an easy mission...
Trademeet?

PLUS 2 weapon use stinks.

The best you ever get is -0 -4 on each weapon. -4 on the second???!!! That stinks!

Ugh.

Well, lets see what we can do:

The best you ever get is -0 -4 on each weapon. -4 on the second???!!! That stinks!

2 weapons isn't worth it if you can't hit, so maybe you ought to stick with 1 weapon and/or a sheild.

Now, Aran(shadowmaster) is jerking me around, sending me on evil quests when my alignment is NG! Worse, I'm afraid I'll lose members of my team over it!

This is what I thought the first time I played, but I think ou've got to do them.  Besides, the other thieve guild is evil too, and you are just getting rid of evil.  I don't think anyone will leave though Jeheria makes a fuss.

Nalia

She left for her father's funeral without you most probably, go to the Graveyard district, there should be "users" there to guide you to the place it's being held.  Go upstairs to meet Nalia's "Fiance"  You should find her somewhere along the way.
