2 HD's and a mi(n/d)i tower

Unless I buy a new shiny big tower case, I'll have to put 2hd's directly on top of each other.

Is that now good or (how I think it is) bad?

Depends on how hot they get.

Never had a problem here, though I've never had 10k-rpm drives.  I expect those to get quite hot.  My 7200 drives do fine.

Well, I've 6 7200RPM WD's set in groups of 3 right on top of each other, and they're still going strong. I should hope that you should be able to stack 2 drives in a decent mid-mini tower case and still be able to keep the temp under control. You may be forced to purchase a hard drive cooler if it concerns you too much.

Well, I crammed in the thing already 1DVD+CDRW.

And right on top of the 2nd HD would be the FDD as well.

Ah, might not hurt to put a fan in then ;) It should only take 1 decent 80-120mm fan to take care of any of that. Or, get teh larger of a mid-mini (I'm not sure which is bigger anymore as all my recent purchases have been full-towers  )

Do you know if I can put an Athlon XP in my KT7?

Apart from the fact that the FSB doesn't do 133mhz?

If you're really worried about heat on the HD's put a fan that sucks air in right in front of the drives, so you get cool airflow coming into the case 'tween the drives.

--- Quote from Pauls kt7 faq ---

Does the KT7 support the AthlonXP processor?
Only version 1.3 of the KT7A and KT7A-RAID support the AthlonXP processor.  These motherboards require a BIOS flash to version 5S or later of the BIOS for automatic support.  All other KT7 motherboards (including KT7, KT7-RAID, KT7E and version 1.2 or earlier of the KT7A and KT7A-RAID) do not support the AthlonXP.  The motherboard version can be identified by the bar coded sticker near the ISA slot.

I know what Paul says.
But fuck Paul.

I ask because the new Durons seem to work perfectly.
With SSE even.

I dunno if I'd fuck paul, but thats just not my bag baby. :)

I myself haven't tried, I'm still stuck on a ancient 750 SlotA Athlon. *sigh*.

If it does work, let me know.

I can't try. Nor do I have enough money atm or the shops carrying one.

I should take a picture of the inside of my case.  It's hliarious.

I have six hard drives and three optical drives.

The case only has two internal 3.5" bays (lots of 5.25" ones, but only two 3.5" ones).  There's a couple of internal 5.25" bays and apparently you can get a mounting kit for 3.5" devices, but I don't have one.

Anyway, two HDs are in the two proper bays.  One is sitting on my CD ROM (untethered).

And on the floor of the case, unsecured, are two drive cages (from some old cases I had lying around), one balanced on the other, with three 10K drives balanced within.

Secure it ain't.

They're powered by some cables I split myself (I ran out of Y connectors), so there are little connector blocks dotted around the place.

And there are ribbon cables everywhere.  6 SCSI devices (4 hard drives with an LVD cable, DVD, CD RW with a regular flat cable), 3 EIDE devices (two chains), and a floppy drive make for a messy system.  And there are a few fans stuck in randomly, for good measure.

I think my thoughts about Peter's case best be described by this emoticon: :eek2:
